My new set of piston rings has just arrived, and im completely baffled as to why i have a number of expander rings and bits with it! With motorcycle engines the general consensus is to throw the expander rings away.......should i just fit back the new oil rings and compression rings and not bother with the other stuff?

Are you sure it's a single set of oil rings and not a set to do each type of oil control ring fitted to various engines? Some where plain, some were the expander type. I would go by the instruction if there are any, or what was on the pistons when you removed them, assuming it's the same pistons going back in.

Having had a look at the instruction leaflet thats come with the set, i have a choice of either using the standard type oil rings, or a different type made up of a number of parts (inlcuding the expander rings). Has anyone used the other type of oil ring as opposed to the standard, or shall i just stick to what i know?!
