RAC Discount?

Anyone know what's happened to the RAC membership discount? (I think it was 15%).

I've just called re my renewal, and they're saying that there is no MMOC discount listed and the discount I got last year no longer applies.

They also want a "scheme number" reference for the MMOC, can't do it from my membership number. I know there used to be one listed on the main MMOC member's site, but I can't find it anywhere.

Does this mean there is no longer an RAC discount?

I have been in touch with the RAC and as far as we are aware the discounts of up to 15% still stand.

The scheme number you need is *to be found in Minor Matters

I've since found I can get it cheaper with the AA as a "new member, joining online", even taking the 15% club RAC discount into account, and, as the RAC were so snotty when I phoned, I'll take my business elsewhere.

You might want to check that the scheme reference is posted somewhere obvious on the main member's site and / or the club magazine, I couldn't find it anywhere.

How much was the AA if you don’t mind me asking? Will it cover you personally in any car? I am looking into cancelling all the separate breakdown covers I have on my different car insurances and taking just one with the AA to cover me and the wife on any car.

If you insure your classic with RH - they include free roadside assistance and recovery to home if necessary. Obviously this only for the classic of course! However my 'More Than' insurance gives me roadside and recovery on my normal car at very little extra cost on the premium.

i was with the RAC and well they put the prices up and would not recover me with a small trailer AA cheaper me and the wife coverd any car no matter what up to 9 seater and with a trailer or caravan on the back

I have all my cars covered and my van but they are all separate policy’s. What I wanted to look into was the cost of one policy that covers all. AA, Green flag or RAC

With the AA you do no specify vehicles - the policy covers you whatever car you are driving - any of yours, your dads, your next door neighbours etc.

Any my green flag - I had to pay a little extra for that though. One of £30 payment covers me and the gf on any car for a year. Don't think thats too bad.

Please check, if you have recovery, how many miles recovery they give you. I have recovered cars that only have 20 miles recovery. The last 1 I did was to Exeter. The breakdown club only paid for 20 miles, which started from our base, and the client had to pay for the rest (including my return mileage) at £1.80 per mile.

I just got my RAC re newal in today - they have given me 10% no claims discount! - but its still £15 dearer than last year! I am going shopping.

AA full personal cover in any car we travel in, for the wife and me. Is £130. Per year. That’s with 25% discount for booking on line. Is that good?

I rang the RAC and explained that I could get the cover I have for £92 online and was told this is in introductory price. I was going to cancel my cover and take out a new membership when my old one ran out. I mentioned the MMOC and was told that this would entitle me to 25% off the full price (which took it back down to £92) This is for a couple on solutions 1. Makes the AA seem expensive.

Interesting. When I asked the AA to stretch my cover so it included the Minor they said they don't cover cars that old.

I am AA and fined for a couple it is the cheapest, when taking into account what is covered.

I use Autoaid which is a claim back insurance policy, for £36.00 a year it covers you and a partner not the cars so there is no car age limit.
If you breakdown you ring the number and they send out one of their approved repair / recovery people. You have to pay the bill and claim the cost back from them which takes about two weeks.

But the AA covers me and the wife in any car. Even if we are passengers and its not our car. They never mentioned an age limit on the cars covered. I had my moggy convertible towed home last year. As a friend that was travelling with me had AA cover. The AA man never questioned a thing he just took his details.

A couple of years ago I rang Green Flag for cheap roadside cover and was told that they don't cover cars over 25 years of age! Is this still true? It does seem that what you get with some companies depends on who answers the telephone at the other end?
