Tyres

So... looking for tyres, and with Firestone 560s (as currently on the car) now unavailable, the options seem to be Bridgestone and Camac. I'm not sure if it's just the local tyre places being lazy, but the Bridgestones are supposedly hard to get into stock. Kwikfit claim on their website to carry GT Champiro T in 145x14, but again the local shop say they don't have and can't get them (though the guy did point me at Vintage Tyres, and knew of Ian Allen up at Witchford, so personally good even if the firm don't impress).

That leaves distance ordering and then local fitting, which brings my question - the most easily available choice are Camacs, and they're substantially cheaper than Bridgestones. Is the quality *correspondingly* lower? To put it another way, is the extra cost of buying Bridgestone matched in extra quality? How do they compare in wear/durability, handling, etc?

And given my current budget (and the fact I may be in a Vimes' Boots situation), more simply, what are Camacs like?

As ever, I'm keen to hear peoples experiences and opinions.

ive got bridgstones on the rear wich are vary good only done 1000 miles on them.i have got 1 camac on the frount as well as a firestone.i got a puncture in the sidewall so needed a new one hence the camac.its ok for the morris as we are not travelling at high speeds.i think tyres have to pass certian tests before they can be sold so they are safe,i prefere to have a branded tyre

i have used nankang and khumo in the past and have found them very good, esprcially the nankang

I have 4 camacs, they seem fine. I had a puncture about 3000 miles after fitting, but I'm sure that's not the tyre's fault!

they seem OK, grip is fine, wet weather fine, but I've nowt to compare them too except the worn out ones I got with the car

Have got 4 Bridestones and have been very pleased with them.
Bought them online and then got someone local to fit them.

But look around cos you can end up paying over £10 a tyre for fitting and balancing.

Got a set fitted and balanced locally for about £20. Don't see how they paid for the valves at that price. Mind you, they were for the minor, and there were a lot of VW campers and 60s motorbikes around........
