Over charging ?

Post by Garym »

My 1970 Mog seems to be overcharging.
I have renewed the voltage regulator and replaced the bushes in the dynamo because the red light was constant on the speedo, not charging.
This obviously solved that problem, but now when I start the car,on full choke the volts dial in the car goes up to the red,on tick over it goes down to normal but when I rev ,it goes back up to red,and the lights get brighter.Does anyone know the problem and how to solve it ? :-?

Forget the in car volt meter, they are not that accurate. Using a digital voltmeter set to 20 volt range, connect it across the battery. Expect to see about 14.5 volts when engine revs are over 2,000 RPM. There's a setup section in the Haynes Manual for the regulator cut out etc.

Sounds like a problem with the regulator which you say you have renewed. Change back to the old one asap!
