Reclining seats

Post by speedbox »

Any help appreciated for locating a light blue back rest seat cover for an original reclining Morris 1000 front drivers seat . This seat has the chrome lever on the side at the base next to the hand brake, from what i can make out the base seat cover is the same as the original saloon seat but the back rest cover appears wider at the sides where it meets the chrome handle to accommodate the reclining mechanism. Can these covers still me bought new or are they the same as a fixed seat?Any ideas will be a great help ,kind regards Darren

Newton Commercial in Suffolk will be able to make the correct cover. They do not offer it as standard, but if you send them the oldd one then they will use it as a pattern - if they've done one before then they'll have the pattern ready.

Although some people dispute whether these seats were ever fitted to Minors I know of three cars (four including yours) where they were. One of them is mine!

Reclining seats

Post by speedbox »

Excellent news thanks for that Simmitc i will give them a try , fortunately i have kept the old covers . They are definately Morris Minor recliners exactly the same as the seats described in page 16 of my owners handbook as an optional extra. I reckon anyone disputing the existence or these seats probably desperately wishes they had one and is just a bit green with envy and in a lot of back trouble with the fixed back variety!! Thanks again for the tip, cheers Darren

First ones I have seen on ebay and as they are quite rare I am not surprised at the final price.

I have a pair of these and they are also light blue. Was this the only colour that they made them in or has anyone got or seen a different colour fitted? :-? :-?

Afraid I bought these and they are very nice. I have been waiting for two years for some to appear on ebay. The Traveller I bought for my daughter last year came with non standard recliners although I thought they were original to be begin with so these will be a great replacement. I'm also after a drivers MM seat for a friend but they rarely come up and when they do they are collection only and too far to go.

Do the handles go on the handbrake side or the door side? Thanks, John

Excellent John glad they have gone to a good home. I would have thought the handles would be on the hand brake side but as they are a pair the drivers one will have the seat adjuster on it if they are original.
They looked in good condition so looks to be a fair price for a rare item.
Cheers
