I just wish that you were joking. The sad thing is that what you say isn't even half of the nonsense around today.

1960's - Child with Autism spectrum disorder is physically and otherwise abused in his home. Beaten by teachers by day and parents by night due to his 'naughty' behaviour, until child's aggression becomes uncontrollable. Leaves school before his teens, then makes it to newly created borstal where he learns that he is scum. Leaving a trail of destruction in his wake, makes it into 'grown up prison' where worse things happen and he commits suicide before reaching 21.

2007 - Child is finally taken into care, after many years of reports of abuse to social services. Placed in a loving foster home. Develops emotionally so that the scarrs from his early life diminish enough that ASD and ADHD can be diagnosed. ADHD is treated and then at special school the child learns enough skills to get him through a functional adult life. Foster carer suffers abuse and nasty judgemental attitudes when out an about with 'naughty' child, but still has the humanity to feel sorry for those who judge without knowing any of the facts.

The world has always been crazy, and it always will be. People have always been fond of the past when wearing rose tinted glasses. Once I used to think I lived in a great country - now I've grown up.

Thanks Ray, it is sometimes appropriate to inject a little reality. I was at school in the 1960's and was taught by a mixture of misfits and psychopaths. I was always glad of the professionalism of my children's teachers even if at times I didn't like them.
There can never be an excuse for hitting children with a chair leg, I survived the grammar school that I went to, but never look back on school as the happiest days of my life. By comparison my daughter (now 25) still thinks of school as the environment that nurtured and encouraged her to develop her skills, for her they were happy days.

I won't be joining the queue to drop down the wormhole back to the '60s.

I didn't much enjoy school in the late 80s-early 90s and I was glad when it was over. College was way more fun.

If it doesn't work, you're not hitting it with a big enough hammer.
