back to spark plug roasting
I asked about this as was having a recurrent intermittent starting problem with the range rover as some of you may know.
Well last week it seemed the spark plug roasting did the trick. A week later back to square one, a non starter and a mighty cheesed off me.
Had anothe crack at it this morning, plugs out good roasting and bingo off it went. Whilst they were cooking checked all the electrics, dizzy was due for a good clean up - not so bad that it was the cause of the non starting though.
Got the crispy golden plugs back in and it fired superbley. Literally on the first spark from 4 days cold and its icy today too.
Anyway I'd err slightly overlooked something

only today after having them out gawd knows how many times noticed they were bloody NGK R plugs - they'll be hotter ones too as they came from a race/rally source.
Occured to me that theyve been in the car for nigh on 7 or 8 years and i reckon they are goosed!
Had a quick google about spark plugs & expected life and found a really informative page here
http://www.aa1car.com/library/cm1196.htm
the bit that hit home was
At the same time, accumulated deposits on the insulator can drain off voltage before it even has a chance to form a spark.
Which i reckon has been the problem.
Might point out that that web page is well worth a read to anyone on here - really informative !
So off to the factors next year to get a set of nice cheap new bog standard plugs and fingers crossed that should see an end to that problem. Going to just make sure and start it every day for 3 days then leave it for 3 - if it then doesnt start and the plug roasting fixes it then hopefully problem solved
Just a bloody shame have to buy 8 not 4
