How is it that in Tenerife (just back from hols) - where all the fuel oil/diesel/petrol is brought in by tanker - the cost at the pump is only 60p per litre!! And that's with a currently poorish £/euro exchange rate! Yet here - with massive resources of oil under our (Scottish !) feet - the cost is a horrifying 105p per litre - bet it's even more on the Islands.
And - although the barrel cost of oil is falling daily at the moment, and we have a goodish £/$ exchange rate - I don't see any reductions coming at the pumps.
Petrol cost - again!

Its called rip off britain, and the way its carrying on is enough to make me consider emigrating in 10 years or so.
Started a thread the other day about heating oil - same thing, was chatting to the guy atthe office & he said there is no forseeable stabilty, just more and more increaes

The UK motorist has always been, and will always be an easy target for the tax man. 75% of fuel cost is duty, with another 17.5%VAT on top of that. Petrol stations make on average 1P per litre profit, the oil companies about 6P per litre. On the other side of the pond the USA is moaning as fuel is now just over 3 dollars for a US gallon. As for North Sea Oil and Gas, is was wasted and what is left is hard to pump out of the ground. The government sold the gas real cheap to power stations.
Why is UK taxation so high? Because of the 'Jobs For The Boys' attitude of every government we have had since WW2. They waste money hand over fist. Dare I say Scottish Parlament Building, estimated build cost £40M and final cost £440M
I love living in Scotland, but absolutely detest polititians. You can always tell when they are lying...Their lips move.
If you think it's bad now, wait till we hit 'Peak Oil', expect 150 to $200 per barrel...
Oh and Petrol is almost a bi-product when refining crued oil for plastics and all the other neat stuff
