Boot lid blisters
I'm about to start preparing my Minor Convertible for a new coat of paint. But I cannot seem to find a way to prevent the recurrence of blisters at the bottom of the boot lid. I'm not sure where the water comes from that causes them - maybe it gets caught in the channel that the boot lid seal fits into on the body of the car. Has anybody tried putting drain holes in the bottom of the channel (and then more in the recessed area at the back of the boot floor to let it drain from there!)? Or any other successful ways to deal with this? In 35 years of owning Minors, I've never found a remedy... Thanks for any bright ideas - especially tried and true ones!

Ive tied all sorts to stop water getting in the boot. Both type of boot seals and putting some dum dum at the badge holes and even drilling extra holes in both the bottom edge of the boot lid and in the boot floor. Nothing seems to work, but at least the extra holes let the water get away!
Best way to cure the bubbling would be to fit one of the boot repair sections or get a better panel, then once painted up put plently of waxoil inside along with the extra drain holes.

Yes, agreed, this is the proper way to repair, dont use sillicone its more likely to trap moisture and make the problem worse. New boot panel, paint, and lots of rust proofing- I would use the thinner Dinitrol 3125 here. http://www.rust.co.uk/popup.cfm?p_n=405069&p_i=405069DAVIDMCCULLOUGH wrote:

Or buy a mint condition original, no rust and still full of 1950's wax oil...
Hmmm.. on second thoughts I'm keeping that one ;-)
