Where does this board go when it dissapears? anyone know what the problem is or where it stems from?
Seems to be doing it with regular frequency lately.
Time to change hosting maybe ?

Well its back then !!! At last ! hmm but for how long who knows?
Crazy thing is i discivered by email that even the mods & web editors were in the dark as of yesterday!
A serious question or two to the powers that be - something for the AGM in fact ...
What caused the outage?
The site & board often dissapear for half a day a week, whats the explanation for that?
The site is registered and hosted with a german company, wouldnt a move to a more reliable UK based company be a wise move?
At least one that has an easily accesible status page which informs people of any problems.
Boards & sites just shouldnt be dissapearing with such frequency in this day and age, its lousy for those of us that use it often and its a very poor advertisement for the club given that it's a potential source of new members.

Which web editor did you ask? I've been chasing the hosying company since it went dow, as I've had no access either. The problem was with the server at their end, but I don't know the details. I have already informed them of yje frequent outqges and they are investigating and monitoring the server.
It took quite a while to find a host that would provide the bandwidth we use at a sensible price and I have no intention of trying to move at the moment.

There are some good UK hosts who host high BW sites without problems - most have a small anual surcharge for increased BW or you can go dedicated or priority server route to - its just doing the maths on the actual traffic.
Be more than happy to get the best 3 prices & options for you if i'm furnished with the traffic details of the current site over the last 12 months.
Also add that be happy to help out in any way possible site or board wise - it used to be my job
Mention it as spend lot of time online and use the board as a little light relief from the mundane day to day work, ergo probably tend to look at it more than most on a daily basis and probably have more time than most to spare.

I could also ask around for hosting quotes. I used to work for an ISP and still have contacts in the industry...

If it doesn't work, you're not hitting it with a big enough hammer.

Strange thing is, when the board was not working, I got no timeout from IE/explorer. There was a connection, but it was only running at about 100bytes per minute, so nothing would get displayed. Seems strange that a hosting ISP company could have a hub/router problem that went un-noticed for more than 2 days. Most decent ISP providers have alarm triggers that will flag a system failure.
There's a bit of a bitching thread on A Series.com about this board and it dates back a long time, so it would appear that this is an ongoing problem.

I use the same German company for my hosting. I've only ever had one outage which lasted a couple of hours. In my eyes, not bad over the 5 years I have been using them. It may just be the server the site is on. If the site is on a shared server, maybe another site is causing the problems with the server.

It just went down for a few minutes and when it came back it'd lost track of which topics I hadn't read yet. I'm sure was doing something like this before the last provider switch. Maybe it's actually a bug in the very old version of PNphpBB2.
