regulator

hi, dad question again...he wants to fit some guages to his car, temp, oil etc, but says you need a regulator. firstly, is this true? secondly, what do they look like? and thirdly, where can he buy one? thanks again! *Callum*(and dave)

That would be a voltage regulator. It holds the volts ata steady 10v. Available from the regular suppliers or mini parts stockists. If your any good with a soldering iron you can make your own solid state regulator from Maplins bits.

temp gauages require a 10v regualtor a small mechanical one or solid state device can be fitted behind the gauage mog suppliers sell the mechanical types or somewhere like maplin sell the solid state one (for solid state easier to be negative earth car)

some advice i wrote some time ago here

oil pressure are best mechanical

battery voltage and amps dont need regualtors as they are directly wired of course

Better to use mechanical gauges for oil p and water t - then no voltage stabiliser needed.

yeah...ahem..im a muppet and bought my dad one of the duel guages, the really pretty ones, it had no tube with it...so is completely useless unless i want to spend 50 quid getting the thing reconditioned...:-(
