Well its been a mad fortnight !

Post by Orkney »

2 weeks ago get a phone call from my parents who were out in Cyprus looking for a place to retire to in the sun.
They had thier house newly on the market so were out there for 10 days viewing allsorts of places.
Well they get a call from estate agents and solicitor - thier house sold - and had to be out in 7 days from getting back to blighty !
They settled on a new place there and really pleased for them, a 2 year old new build, pool and all the luxuries, at a relatively new development up the rod from a resort called Coral Bay, its actually known locally as sea caves area. Supposedly one of the most desirable addresses for property there.
Looks lovely from the photos, 2 minute walk to lots of relatively tourist free coves and small beaches, sea views from the front of the house mountains to the rear.
Anyhow, there they were stuck out there and hadnt even begun to arrange any form of removal - well hadnt even looked into it not thinking it would all kick of so quickly.
So it was me and the internet to the rescue  found a good international removal company (did plenty of research though) who were only based 15 miles away from them. Sorted complete removal, olds do the packing, company picks up everything, takes to warehouse for palleting & shrinkwrapping, then loads into a 40ft container leaving enough room to get the car they are taking in as well.
The timing was perfect - container arrives on the doorstep in cyprus they have official ownership - which is 3 weeks today, the local agent of the shipper turns up with a tilt load car cransporter to remove the jeep, and 4 staff to empty the container into the house.
All paperwork sorted at the port, so no potential problems there as have been known to happen.
Next thing was to arrange boxes, bubble wrap, teachests etc of which they had none. Luckily a pal is the biggest ebay seller of packing supplies so that was relatively easy.
It wasnt all completely without snags but could have been a LOT worse.
This morning they headed for seperate airports - as the dog is going too had to go on a particular flight, of which there was one seat only available so Old Dear has gone with the dog from southampton, old man flies from bristol and gets there 15 mins later.
Theres a fair bit to do when they get there which they cant do - sat tv system, broadband (which incidentally is blisteringly fast and cheap there) , new laptop, webcam etc to reduce the cost of phone bills. Security system, and any general snags.
So i got the short straw and said OK i'll go sort that, so in 3 weeks it'll be breakfast in orkney and dinner in cyprus
Truly lucked out with the flights - just caught the last hour of BA sale which i didnt know was on, got there and back for less than have paid for a return to bristol in fact.
The girl in the booking center was delightful and helpful but oh so sadly it worked out much cheaper if i stayed for 10 days not 7
So thats it, parents homeless for 3 weeks - but the estate agent has got them a place until then, think the lovely thing is that todays thier wedding anniversary so they will be having a wonderful meal this evening on a significant day all round.
Suppose now all thats out of the way have to get back to work ! well for 3 weeks anyway 8)

Happy for your family Buddy. I moved only one mile from my last house to this one, and that was enough hassle for me, even though it did go like clockwork due to forward planning. I've got a big sister in the USA, so in a couple of years time, my retirement plan (treat) is to fly to NY hire a triumph cruiser, and ride across the USA to California.

Lovely story, thanks for sharing that.

Last time we moved our twins were born the same week.
STRESSFUL!
Older and more confused than I could ever imagine possible.
