Grille colour on Maroon Trav

Post by Orkney »

Was there is there a correct colour for the radiator grille?

New valance arrived yesterday (fiberglass from BM and very nice it is too)
The bumper blade is horribly painted with hardly silver paint, so got to thinking why not repaint it to match the grille which needs a repaint.

Only trouble is not sure what colour the grille is supposed to be, presently its a kind of creamy off white (could just be very faded / discouloued white ).

Will grab a snap of it when ive fed the chickens

The grille on a maroon car from '60 / '61 onwards should be old english white.

this is as is at the moment scabby valance, rusty wings and all :(

its sort of similar but not the same as the wheels colour.

just held the new valance over the old - seriously debating doing away with the metal bumper strip altogether until some day might consider a new chrome one along with all the chrome work.
Just realised too that it doesnt have the bumper over riders!

My view is that they look better without overiders! Dulux Magnolia Gloss is very close to OE White - especially if you are just doing wheels/grille.

Dulux Magnolia
Thats just to close to chip paper for my liking

I know what you mean about the over riders. I'll be putting a pair of driving lamps on at some stage (for functionality and nothing else).
I do like wing mirrors, the external sun visors too, but... when you see one (and this is just my opinion) with the visor, wing mirrors, over riders & lamps it just doesnt look right in a less is more kind of way.
Sort of reminiscent of a scaled down version of those American rigs with every conceivable chrome thing bolted on.

The worrying thing is that until LouiseM just posted and i saw her sig pic i'd never even twigged that there were no over riders - senile @ 40 - great !

If you go into any normal car accessorries shop like McGanns or Halfrauds you can get the little 400ml car paint spray cans for about a fiver, if you look in the colour guide book the olde english white should be there under Austin. I bought one a few weeks ago, i haven't tried it yet but it should be enough

Isn't Rover Arum White the same shade as OEW?

If it doesn't work, you're not hitting it with a big enough hammer.

It might well be, actually i'm not sure whether it was Austin or Rover that I found the OEW under in the modern cars colour chart but it is definitely there if you look hard
