Fibreglass wings?

Post by YummyMummy »

Just wondering your opinions on these, after reading positive points on front valance.

fibreglass

Post by Willie »

The valances which i have used have always been extremely well made.
However, wings are a different matter. I used some rears many years ago which were so flimsy that the surfaces cracked after the first ten miles of use. I have one fibreglass front wing on at the moment which is perfect ly fine apart from the usual problem of 'star bursts' where a stone has been thrown up by the wheel and slightly cracked the surface finish. The only way to avoid this would be to fit some sort of liner in the wheel arch which makes you consider if it is best to fit a steel wing in the first place.

The fronts I have have been fine, no crazing, so 'stars', and they're about 10 years old. Try to see the wings before you buy, and check how thick they are.

Well the valance should be here tomorrow, but wings I'd be tempted to stay away from - got FG wings on the rear of the trav and they are not a pretty sight - ones had a slight knock (previous owner not me honest !) which distorted it to 3-4 inches out of line of the bodywork (now retained by a good old cable tie & couple of appropriately drilled holes for said tie).
Other one hasnt been knocked and its like a really old oil painting come crazy paving kind of finish.
Pattern wings not twice the price of FG so that would be my choice, least you can repair/fill a dent in a steel one, whereas with FG your looking at replace.
Valance makes economic sense, wings not so.
BG obviously doesnt go to the supermarket much and suffer trolley dings
