Layshaft roller bearing removal
I'm trying to remove the spring clips within the layshaft so that I can remove the roller bearings. At the moment I'm having no success in moving them at all. Does anyone know of a good technique for removing them?

Been there done it, * tricky little boogers to get out.
You need, a strong but pointed spring hook lever and a very sharp screwdriver.
Using sharp screwdriver, lever up spring clip, and then pull with hook lever tip., while using screwdriver top prevent clip jumping back into it's groove.
Or if you intend to fit new clips (advisable) lever out of slot and bend them till they can be rotated out of the slot.

I never managed to get them out without damaging the springclips. It is a good idea to replace the roller bearings anyway. The new needle bearings don't use the springclips. My methode removing the old ones is simular to that of Moggytech. I also use a punch to mark the springclip and so get better grip with a pointed tool. Check the bearing surface of the laygear. I had to bin a number of leagears because they where damaged in that area.
