series II brake backplates

Post by callyspoy »

if i were to convert my early series II front brakes, to the standard 1000 brakes, would i only need to change the backplate and cylinders? i think i will need four new cylinders at some point, but they are pretty expensive on the early series II! please inform...as there are a pair of backplates on flea bay that i could buy...thanks again!

I would recommend that you may as well go up to the 8" drums that were on the 1098 minors if you are converting. If you are not going to be using the original parts again and they are in usable condition then i'm sure we could sort out a swop? I have the 7" or 8" bits if you require them? :D
But if you wanted to go to 8" then you will have to change the whole uprights as i presume you have the hubs that are combined with the brake drums?

as it stands, i have had my extrovert "don't worry about the cost" phase, and am now in, "oh god, i need my car to work and cheaply" phase. so...really i need to stay at 7" if it is as simple as swapping the backplate and cylinders. because as you guessed, i do have the combined hub/ drum. if it is just swap plate and cylinders, then i'll do it, via ebay and esm. this is because in regards to my "bits", im not sure how useable they are, i don't want to do a swap and then you find out that they are completely pants. but if i do convert them, im sure i can bring the bits to a sadmog meet at some point, and if they look okay, you could have them for a very small fee. sound fair?

Sounds ok to me! I have a pair of 7" backplates sat here if you require them and will swop them for your old one's when you have got them off.(i'm happy to take a chance on their condition, so if they are "pants" then thats my problem!) :D Can pass them to a SADMOG member for you to collect from if thats easier? :-?
