I've just stumbled across what might be a handy guide to adapting the later A+ dizzy to an earlier block:

I did it the other way round when the electronic unit failed on an early 1.3 Montego - I fitted a points distributor out of a Marina !

Hello Packedup,

to my mind the 25D and others with a vernier timing adjustment is worth retaining, modern isn't necessarily better. It usually meant cheaper to manufacture.

I generally agree - But I happen to have an electronic Metro dizzy and most of another one. I'm tempted to be rid of points and condensor setups, especially now the price at the local factors has reached nearly £10 each time I want to replace the two! Plus, as I see it remove that pressure on the upper shaft from having the points pushing on it most of the time must be better in the very long run.

I also have a couple of spare ignition modules so no worries about being stranded in case of failure

The MG Metro electronic dizzy is a horrible thing - stick with good old points if you can. And yes - the vernier is indeed much more handy than having to swing the whole dizzy body.
