Engine Colour

Post by Onne »

Hello fellow sidevalvers

After seeing many Series MMs at the National, I was wondering what the right colour is for the engine and box

I know the ancillaries are black/ silver

Hi, l used to have my 'power unit' green (BMC I think) but I read somewhere that it was originally grey so mine, as it was due for a tidy up is now a mid grey. I can't find the tin now but I think it was just an oil based paint so not sure how long it will last.

I do know it is not BMC green, as these engines predate the merger of Austin and Morris.

I want to get it right though :D

thanks for your help Alan

"Original Morris Minor" states :-

"The cast-iron block & cylinder head along with the alloy sump, were painted grey on the majority of cars. However, some cars were originally supplied with engines painted light blue, others were finished in red & towards the end of production green was introduced"

:D

I have found some red paint on the inside of the engine, would that indicate the outside colour as well?
It's red.. I don't know if I like that for my engine, it would be very... red!

Well it is possible as my Morris Cowley engine is red.

that is nice, maybe I can match it up then! I don't really care if I don't like the colour, as long as it is original.

I would have loved a black car with light blue engine, but I have a Platinum Grey (which I now really like) with a red engine!
