Seat belts for 61 4 door

Post by RogerRust »

Sophie didn't have seat belts when she was made.

I wanted to fit inertia real belts, but there were no anchors. The bottom fixing were no problem, but the B post presented a problem because the trafficator was in the way.

What I have done is make a bridging piece from 40 x 6 mm steel with a seat belt bolt welded in from the back and then ground down so that it doesn't foul the trafficator. Then I fitted captive nuts top and bottom and countersunk the steel to accept c/s Allen head bolts to hold it in place.

To finish it off I covered it in vinyl to match the over trims and punched holes so that I can get to the screws to remove it if I ever need to get to the trafficator arms.

I think it’s a good solution to the problem of the anchor being either too high or too low.

hello RR,
I went to the National on the Sunday and on a whim, I treated myself to a pair of trafficators for my 4 door. Well, the slots looked so empty. Then I spent a good bit of the day wandering around looking for 4 doors with both seat belt and trafficators as I began to wonder if I'd done the right thing. I have my seat belts mounted at the same sensible height as you but on a bar inside the door pillar which means no room for trafficators. Then I spied your car and yes, it looked as though it could be done. Hurrah. I've done a quick search tonight and there's the answer. Thanks for coming up with a sensible tidy solution.
Cheers, Colin.
PS Liked your car very much.
