In the middle of renovating a morris minor with 1098 engine, (dont know history of engine) i have had the engine runing for short periods, but yesterday I left it running for 15 mins, I spotted a pool of oil on the right hand side of the engie and thought it might be coming from the tappet cover gasket. I took of the inlet exhaust manifold and exaust maniforld only to see oilin the number three and four exhaust ports, the engine is showing no breathing problems (smoke from the breather cap) but I did see a lot of smoke comming from the Exhaust)
any advice welcome
oil leaking from exhaust

are you sure the oil was allready in the exhaust manifold before you took it off.Would have thought that any oil getting in there would be burnt off and blown out of the exhaust while the engine was running .And how would the oil get out of the exhaust and form a pool on the floor below the engine. Is it possible that you have a leaking rocker cover gasket, and the oil has entered the manifold when you have loosened the bolts without you seeing it. Have a good look at the rocker cover gasket before starting to pull the engine to bits,You may be lucky,if not ,then there is a serious problem somewhere.Possible cracked head??

oil
Macpartland...another thought, if your 1098 is the sort with a mushroom
shaped breather assembly which is mounted in the inlet manifold then you can get terrible oil problems if the diaphragm which is inside has developed a split. Hope yours isn't that type.
