fuel pump

Post by steve4063 »

just fitted new points into a pump i found in my box of bits.

new diaphram on back order at mo.

right problem is i always thought they clicked like mad until they were full of fuel?

this one clicks as soon as u put power to it but only once.(using a booster pack for power so plenty there and a good earth)

if u pull the top points off slightly it clicks away happily.

is there a fault somewhere i've done wrong is it it shot inside

I think the points gap might need adjusting. The workshop manual describes how (page B.5).

If it doesn't work, you're not hitting it with a big enough hammer.

it said press in the middle and gently bend the spring until it just clears it.

Never replaced a diaphragm in all my years - and I have some very old pumps - all working fine!
