Hi All,
Just collected Naomi from the welders and very nice she looks too. However, driving back, the car was idling INCREDIBLY fast. Any idea what could cause this? It was OK when I took it in 2 weeks ago but now it's too high. It may or may not be connected but the engine was missing a bit recently, although this cleared itself up.
Many thanks in advance,
Neil

could be the tickover screw has moved try screwing it anti clockwise or it may be the throttle cable is caught on somthing or not seating properly. the earth on the battery has probably been removed for welding which may have somthing to do with it. check the choke cable and earth return are not in contact, pulling on the choke. also the exhaust clamp has the return spring. if the exhaust pipe was removed, the bracket for the throttle spring may be in a different place.

4 possibilities I can think of
1 - they've reset the throttle adjustment screw (just wind it back down)
2 - the choke screw that lifts the revs is screwed too far in (just wind it back down)
3 - the throttle cable has got pulled out a bit (wiggle the outer cable until it sits back in)
4 - the choke spring hs come off so that the choke is staying on.

Call me stupid...
...but I called the garage to ask if he'd touched anything mechanical, talked through the problem and narrowed it down to me forgetting to put the choke in. Been driving a fuel injection car for 2 weeks and kindof forgot it existed!!!
