Oil consumption/Boot lock

Murgatroid Minor 1000 1969 G reg. Help reqd with 2 problems. 1 Excessive oil consumption, It its not leaking onto the road as far as I can see,certainly when standing still. Where may the oil be going, The exhaust smoke is clean/clear. 2 Boot lock. I fitted new handle/lock assembley and boot still does not lock help?

Boot handle must be faulty - send it back. I assume the boot closes - and stays shut ok - it's just not 'locking' ??
Oil is either leaking or burning! When you say 'excessive' what do you mean - pint for 50 miles ?

As a rough guide it was considered by the makers to be 'within specification' if the engine only did 500 miles to the pint of oil!
