When removing the brake master cylinder I find that the threaded part of the yoke which adjusts the push rod length is nearly always bent.
Can anyone explain why this happens and is there a way of preventing the threaded section bending?

I have never found that but imagine that previous heavy handed owners have tried to remove it incorrectly. A bent yoke thread is dangerous, I would not try to straighten one.

I have found exactly the same thing, I put mine back, the thinking being a new one would not be made as well. It must go back the same way that it came out though so as it doesn't try to straighten, and weaken. I think the arc in which it operates causes the 'bend', it is not a perfectly straight push on the pushrod. I am still considering the correct way to install the yoke with this bend in mind. What way round was your yoke millerman? If yours is still in place, perhaps you could confirm what way it bends.

Les, the bend was upwards ie towards the cotter pin on the brake pedal. I find that there is quite a curve on the threaded part of the yoke.
As you say it is probably the arc in which the pedal operates that causes the bend. I wonder if it is lack of lubrcation between the yoke, the cotter pin and brake pedal bracket that causes the problem.
