traveller to pick up

Post by steve4063 »

i've just aquired for free a traveller,
the wings are full metal and the bodywork is in surprisingly brill condition as far as i can see (its still in the weeds at the moment) seeing as tho its been stood for soom time

the main problem is the wood has completely gone.i touched a bit and it came away in my hand

i'm considering converting it to a pick up as i've always fancied having one.

how hard is it to convert and what is involved roughly at this stage don't need to go into too much detail unless its a fairly straight forward conversion lol. i doubt it is tho hey.

i've been told that the reason she was taken off the road originally was the suspension had gone.

thanks

Hmmm i had wondered this myself a few weeks back and after trwling through the bodywork section there are a few good posts about this. However I do remember seeing a really good photo of a trav that had been converted that was ...I think a green/blue colour but now I cant seem to find the photo??
So please if anyone has photos it would be great for me also!
(sorry for the highjack)
cheers, michael.

Look at http://www.minimania.com/images/article ... /index.htm

I too have a traveler that I will be converting (after the ute, and the other traveler are finished - around 2020 :)). The main thing is to replace the structural support of the traveler wood, be it with wood (like the link above) of with a welded frame (my intention) The ute back will fit, but will take a wee bit of fiddling. It has also been suggested to turn the back into a "skeleton", keep the monocot chassis, but remove as much sheet metal as possible, essentially turning the monocot into a chassis, to prevent major rusting, as in the traveler it is all protected from the elements

Gene (from the above link) is quite active on other morrie forums (like the yahoo one)

the only problem with this is that there is no separte chassis on a traveller so itll need strengthend. this may lead to problems MOTing it.

Yep I htink that was the one. If anyone has a pic it would be very much appreciated. I accidently leant on the edge of some of my timber today and put my finger through it!!!! so maybe a pick up conversion would be a good idea as I am thinking 200+ hp and soggy timber wont be that good a friendship :)
