If you only charge your own time at a inexpnsive £10 an hour a lot of our cars will have cost cars £20K+

jonathon wrote:Trouble is though Bill, despite your cars pedigree and authenticity, it will probably achieve less than half of the build cost of this restoration, due to the bizarre scale of value that the Minor attracts. We build many cars at this price range and some well in excess of this, but in the knowledge that, parts, mods, labour and vat cannot be represented in a resale price, if, ever one came up for sale. :-? :D
I totally agree with this view Jonathon when applied to a restored car. However 'Ellie' is largely original, and therefore like a work of art you would be paying for a unique original as opposed to a reproduction

I think the best way to deal with a restoration is not to count the cost, it makes your hair fall out

I understand your reasoning Bill, but I went to view a 2dr saloon for a customer last night, totally original ,except for two very small patches which in the right hands could be lost, the price of this genuine car? £2500. :o :o :D

In Concours Grand Masters condition? As with all antiques and works of art, condition is paramount if a high price is to be paid

Part of the fun of maintaining my old 1000 is the tight budgeting and 'creative' parts bodgery.
Having access to a blank chequebook would make it all too easy and no fun.
What would Macgyver do..?

I've probably spent getting on for £2k so far on a car that cost me £1000 3 years ago. Worth every penny :D

If you consider that a restoration to the standard shown in the pics could take 1000 hrs or more, then at £30 per hour, the £30K fee would not cover parts paint and materials, so its actually cheap.
Cheers John - all comments IMHO
