Door catch problem

Post by Dominic »

Hi folks
I did a silly thing today.... managed to snap the head of one of the c/s bolts (2ba?) holding the door catch in place on the driver's door. No matter, thought I....... I have just the tool to remove the broken screw....
I therefore carefully drilled the screw centre, and screwed in my stud extractor.... which promptly snapped, leaving a hardened steel plug in the screw remains! As this is in the captive plate to allow for adjustment, how on earth am I going to remove this? The door striker plate is now held by one new screw only!
Any ideas anyone?
Many thanks!
Dom

Is it on the door or on the B post?

If it is your four door in your siggy picture and it is on the B post, good news - you can remove the plate, but bad news I think you have to remove the back door. At least that is what I did!

Hi Rog
It is the striker plate fixing on the B post, and yes, that is my 4-door. Removing a door shouldn't present too many probs!
Cheers mate

you'll find one corner is rounded off so that you can lever the plate out. What ever you do don't drop it inside the b post!! Once I got the plate out. I managed to unscrew it from the back of the plate with a mole wrench.
I bought some new 2BA c/s screws from ESM

I don't want to teach my grandmother to suck eggs, but pencil round the hinges first then its easy to get them back where you started.

Ahh that's already taken care of, previous respray! It has left the perfect marking-out lines that cannot be removed with a rubber, or even an eraser! (CheersBM!)
