How does it work? Do people mosey on up to the start in their Minors, then drive like the clappers to the finish, and then mosey on home? What sort of round trip is that?

For me, from near Salisbury:

home to JOG: 773 miles.
JOG to LE: 839 miles (using motorways)
LE to home: 221 miles

Total: 1883 miles. As Onne said, a big round trip to do in a few days.

Shame they don't start at LE for us southerners.

Don't think I'll ever do one myself. Its just too much for fuel these days.
Be nice as a stretched out touring holiday, stopping at campsites on the way.

You'd only have to drive home from the end, instead of driving to the begining. Mileage would be exactly the same. I think it would be worse. Imagine driving 200 miles to LE then 800+ to JOG, then realising it's another 800 back to Portland? I much prefer the idea of driving 200 miles from LE after being up all night rather than 800 frmo JOG.

Don't think I'll ever do one myself. Its just too much for fuel these days.

If I ever get a divorce I'll do it, and it would be swiftly followed by a divorce if I did it. That's Wifey's birthday weekend

From Burnley, according to Google Maps it's 480 miles up to JOG, 827 miles down to LE, then 391 miles back from LE (total: 1698 miles). And I am still seriously considering doing it this year.

Assuming 40MPG (should be achievable with steady driving) that's about 193 litres. At today's average price for unleaded of 86.1p per litre, that works out to £166.

Go for it folks!

I did it last year - Drove up to Perth on the Sunday stayed in a travelodge which I booked well in advance for £10. Had a quiet day on the Monday and picked up my co driver from Inverness airfield ( not really an airport!) then up to John o Groats for dinner with lots of joglers. Monday night we stayed in a hotel at John o Groats.

We left JoG at 11.00 (I think) to get past Glasgow before the rush and arrived in LE for breakfast 22 hours later even alowing for stopping to watch the England vrs Sweeden match. Then we had a few hours rest and drove my co driver back to kent and home via the M25 in the rush hour! Best part of 2K miles.

It is a long way - infact your nearly half way there when you get out of Scotland (360 miles I think) then it's down hill through the night in the dark with the sun rising as you fall off the end of the M5. There is a stop at the Morris Minor Centre just of the M5 for tea and cakes around midnight. They will sell you any spares you need and get you going.

Would I do it again? Yes, but not this year.

40 mpg?

Why does everyone quote that figure? Is that only achievable over long distance traveling under 60mph?

I'm running a 1275 now but even with the 1098 i'd average 35mpg at best on a run and get less locally.

I usually sit between 60 and 80 on the faster roads although I do knock the needle off the dial sometimes when bored. Really need a 5th gear or a Riley diff.

can meet anyone at LE any time, only 45 mins from my doorstep, but not driving to JOG. maybe to Bodmin for me.
