Try the Rover T16 turbo or Rover 3.5 V8, both have been done with great success

Anything can be fitted - if you have the facilities - and the will to do it. But nothing will 'drop straight in' except the original engines.

Hows about an mx5 motor, they are reasonably cheap and already in rwd format. A friend of mine has put an injected pinto into one and it is a really nice job too. Do a search for Last minute rallying on the web as that is their website with pics of it.
There was a nice marina with a 350 chev in it near where i grew up. Cool fun fast car.
Or hows about a mazda rotary engine? That is what is in my traveller.
cheers, michael.

If it doesn't work, you're not hitting it with a big enough hammer.

Well as they didnt start production until 1971, is it a pre production car that you have and what is/was the engine it was fitted with ?
Cheers

Wrong BM, the T 16 drops straight in on the original engine mounts, as does the gearbox, you only need to re shape the gearbox covere and away you go, (well almost) We will be fitting a K series and type 9 box in one later this year

I don't know of anybody that has done one but how about the Ford zetec SE (not the bigger e) they have been turned for use in rwd with a bellhousing for a type9(the kit car companies have done a lot of the work). Its a small engine, all alloy and has capacities up to 1700cc and can give over 150bhp in puma spec. For old school try a crossflow. Ignore all this I have just realised we are not talking morris minors.

lol.. although its a good point and you probably could stuff one in a marina.

I've measured a Zetec with all the gubbins attached and it just fits in the minor bay - provided you have no radiator! Hmm.. back to the drawing board.

The 1.7 Puma engine is a belter, that would be a great conversion.

If anybody wants a 1250cc Zetec from a Mk4 Fiesta I've got one you can have. It's in the car, but if you can come and get it from Wiltshire/Hampshire borders you can have it for nowt...

Arnie, went to view an SE install last week, very nice engine with low weight and plenty of torque and bhp, fits the type 9, Easy to modify for more power. Even better though was the Toyota 1.6 20v motor kicking out 156bhp in standard form, includes standard throttle bodies, also fits the Ford Type 9. We think that this motor will now superceed the K series, until we find out if more new units will be shipped from China.

Can we confirm what Zetec this is as I was under the impression that the 1.4, 1.25 and Puma 1.7s were different to the rest of the range and couldn't be fitted to a T9 box?

I was looking at the 1.8/2.0 lumps as they're frequently used in old escorts and all the RWD conversion parts are available off the shelf...albeit at a premium.
