box sections

I'm not happy just squirting Waxoyl into box sections and hoping for the best, the best I can think of doing is following this up with a piece of rag firmly tied to a steel rod and pushed down the section and twisted about to ensure full coverage of the metal. I'm talking here about a proper minor with a chassis!, although you saloon guys have the same problem with the front section. Anyone got other methods of achieving total coverage!

Get a proper rust proofing gun instead of the hand pump item that you get with a Waxoyl kit.
Obviously it would need a compressor to provide the required volume of air but mine turns the Waxoyl into a "fog" that get into every nook and cranny.

If only it was that easy, there are several obstructions in the chassis sections that the spray hits, such as the eye bolt sleeve, there seems to be no way of being sure how much gets past. I have used your method and you get a powerful spray which is ok for open box sections, as you say the waxoyl gun is pretty poor, and the probe they supply is an insult, a flattened nail in the end of a hard tube!

Les, try and find some screen washer hose which is pretty soft and flexible,drill a series of 3 mm holes in it along its entire length, feed this down the chassis (should be able to squeeze it through. Attatch your pump and sqirt. Simply leave it in the leg so you can use it like a garden sprinkler hose. Or use the same hose but blank off the end with a metal tube,in which three holes are drilled in its outer face. You end up with a direct flow through the end and an atomised spray through the peripheral ones. We always thin warmed waxoyl 50/50 with white spirit. Hope this helps.

Thanx for both replies. Yes I think as an alternative to the 'rag' idea a probe that will give an even, atomized, spray sounds good, will have to experiment, as in the past I've failed to get a nice spray pattern using probes; more a splat here and there!

I think it might just be a pressure problem Les, as the waxoyl should be a mist rather than a visible liquid application.
