Weird PMs...

Post by JimK »

I received yesterday a PM from a newish user (joined Dec 06, no posts) saying:
"have you a brief on this moggi please"

To which I replied (in summary) "Eh?"

Another PM arrived from our mystery friend today saying:
"is morris for sale ? if so have you any details"

To me, this seems fishy for a number of reasons:
1) There's little attempt at punctuation and the language is third year primary school at best.
2) I haven't seen anybody write "moggi" as opposed to "moggy".
3) I'm not selling my car(s) and have given no indication that I might.

What do you think? Am I being
a) paranoid?
b) reasonably cautious?
b) unforgiving of newbies with an utter lack of langauge skills? :-)

Opine.

Jim,

Is it worth Pm-ing a moderator, or the administrator? Muse be traceable...possibly worth nipping before he/she becomes a pain.

I was wondering if the next message will say:

"Hello. I am Milton Abamwe, General Manager of the Central Bank of Lagos, and I am interested in your moggi. I will pay 50 zillion American dollars, please arrange shipping."

:-)

If a mod doesn't see this I'll mention it, but probably no need to do anything yet.

I would say you are very sensible to be cautious Jim. The lack of posts being a dead giveaway. :o

Ben, did you tell any of the mods about the post & the identity of the sender? We have no way of seeing your messages.

Some time ago I noticed at the bottom of the column marked main menu it says 'you are logged on as peetee'. below this 'you have 2 private messages'.

This takes me to a separate are to the private message area (link next to 'logout' above this message column) and the messages mean nothing to me - either sender or content. I raised this with Cam and he couldn't shed any light on the matter.
Older and more confused than I could ever imagine possible.
