Yesterday evening I greased the greasy bits, as you do, and upon removing the gun from the left-hand handbrake cable I realised the nipple was still in the gun. This is not good, I though to myself.
Is this fixable? It doesn't look like it - it seems as though the nipple has torn out of the cable. It would be vexing to have to change the cable.
I also found where the brake fluid has been disappearing to, but that's another story...
That's not supposed to happen...

nipple
Well, I have just looked at my spare handbrake cables and the nipples
are screwed in in the normal way and there are flats on them for the spanner so I assume that your threaded part has sheared off. Hopefully
you can extract the broken threaded part fairly easily since it should have spent its life surrounded by grease!!

The same happened to me when I serviced the car. fortunatly it was the last point I was doing and the whole nipple came out. But did not look like it had torn the thread, so I just screwed in a new one.
I'm still currently stuck with a flexi hose with the nipple caught in the end. Tried pliers, grips etc to grip the thing but no joy, so need acces to a vice to get the thing out.
Added a pack of nipples to the service kit in anticipation of the same problem again some time in the future, also invested in some of those covers to reduce the amount of road grime that collects on them.
funny how the list of jobs grows!
