First Trip Out

Post by vincenth »

Took my traveller on its first big trip after its restoration and after about 30 miles it started overheating on the A50. Upon close investigation it turns out that the fan had mangled my fanbelt which then caused the radiator to overheat and also for the battery to run down. Luckily I had a spare belt but the radiator I could not fix. Called the AA and after the application of some plastic metal I was on my way again. Time for a new radiator I think.

I'd also check your fan closely too. If its mangled a belt once, theres a reasonable chance it will do it again

Check that the 3 pulleys the belt runs around are aligned correctly.

It seems that the fan might have been fouled by the radiator which seems too far back thus touching the fan. I ordered a new radiator plus top and bottom hoses while I am it.

There`s not really that much for and aft movement in the radiator mountings, check that the fan pulley is corectly tightened and also that its not cracked somewhere causing excessive movement, also if the fan was hitting the rad you would not have missed the noise.

All fixed, turns out it was just the remote so it wasn't too bad, just had to remove the carpet to get at it.
