traf blue spray paint

Hello all. I'm re-painting my front wings and need a few spray cans of traf blue paint. I didn't really want to spend £8 a pop so does anyone know of a cheaper equivalent that is a match for that colour? I know i'm a cheapskate but what do you expect from a student

Afraid not and Trafalgar Blue has a couple of shades as it is.

There is an early and late Trafalgar blue with a small change in shade, however the spray can's will probably not match either one. Traffy blue is a dark colour therefore will be very faded after 30 or 40 years

The spray can's seem to be the darker version of the colour, but I can't remember if that is to the spec of the the early or late colour.

For a alternative you can try your local paint specialist (look them up in yellow pages) however they may be more expensive.

If you try hard enough you might get someone to match the exact colour that you want but it certainly won't be less than £8 per spray can.

Try local auto jumbles as often spray cans go for as little as 50p, however, you will be taking pot luck as to whether the paint is any good

Don't know if you can still get them but there was a Volvo colour as used on the 340s which was virtually identical and was available in Halfords.

someone told mw there is a rover colour that is very close available from halfords??? true????

There is Arum White that is the same as Old English White but I dont know of a blue.

There is a 'Trafalgar Blue' gloss in Focus. I havn't yet tried it yet but think i will as I have nothing to lose having aready sprayed the spray on all the rusty patches! Much darker than my original paint....

Ben,

Most car paint factors will mix the paint and put it in an aerosol for you.

Mine charges a tenner for a sensible size aerosol.

Just remember to T-cut a patch when you match the colour

the darker shade is the earlier shade, Ive been trying to match the later shade, as said the blue is hard to match there is a rover blue which is close but still not right.

As mentioned, the earlier Trafalgar blue is darker and has a slight green tinge in comparison with the later, flatter traffy blue. The difference is hardly noticable until you get one of each side by side. The earlier shade is available and is the one listed as Trafalgar blue in Halfords - but it has to be mixed - and i can't remember under what it's listed, either Rover Austin Rover, British Leyland, etc etc.
