Clutch problem

Post by mollymalone »

OK -your starter for ten.
Molly is taken out for a short drive once a week. There has been no problem with slipping clutch or changing gears over the last 8 months. However, on her last two outings, she has refused to change down intermittently. She remains in gear despite the clutch being fully depressed (cluth pedal correctly adjusted) -then there is a clunk and all is well again. Do you think this is due to not enough use or could the clutch plates be sticking together for some other reason, regards

Hmm - could be - but unlikely. More probable is oil on the clutch holding it to the flywheel. To test clutch - engine hot - handbrake on - engage 4th gear - rev up and release clutch! The engine should stall virtually immediately. If it spins - then either badly worn - or oil on plate.
