OK I give up what is the trick?

Post by 246gts »

What is the trick of getting the rubber grommets below the wiper motor into place?
I've tried fairy liquid, cutting a small notch and trying to screw them in, poking with a blunt screwdriver and now it looks like I will have to cut them into two halves and put one on top and one below and put the bolt through.
HELP

perseverance is the key here.
well what i have done in the past (original rubbers) is to get them 2/3rds of the way in and then with a blunt instrument a wooden wedge is good, just prise the last 1/3rd in, it will go

Thanks for this post! I was taking Hebe's old ones off the other day and thinking "How on earth do I put these back?". Au - do you heat the rubbers up first?

I've only ever used a blunt instrument - and maybe some WD40 to help slipperyness.

rubbers

Post by Willie »

Be careful with these rubbers the object is to insulate the wiper motor so that
it is NOT connected to chassis!

Done it!
It was a case of perseverance, cut a small notch in the underside, screw it in as far as you can, use a blunt instrument in my case an old wooden spoon handle cut to a blunt point, push the rubber in as you twist around and dont forget the fairy liquid!!!
These new ones were from MGM spares and to be honest without the modification I would say there was no chance
The other tip was to leave it alone last bnight and come to it fresh this morning or they would have been cut into two separate halves!

:o but where do you hide the bodies :o

Seriously though, if it earths via the body, what happens? After 40 years there must be a few that have no rubber.

It's to insulate it as far as vibration, not for electrical insulation.
