MM front hub torque setting

Help - I am trying to find the torque setting for the front hubs on an MM ('52). I need to clean out the brakes, and have no wish to strip a 50 year old nut when i put it all together again

There is no torque wrench setting in the manual for these nuts. Tighten them up until the wheel no longer spins freely and then slacken them off enough so that the wheel spins freely again AND you can fit a split pin in place in the stub axle BUT there is no noticeable sideways movement. Easy!

Remember that the nuts tighten up in the same direction that the wheels travel when the car is moving forwards i.e. RHS clockwise and LHS anticlockwise.

If your car uses nuts to hold the wheels on then the hub nut torque should
be 35 to40 ft lbs according to the workshop manual. You do NOT slacken
the nut off, the whole purpose of the spacer is to lock the inner races of the
wheel bearings solidly to the stub axle so that there is no possibility of them
ever revolving on it. I ask re the wheel nuts because that mod came in during 1952.

Thank you both. I will try torquing up to 35 ft lbs and if she doesn't spin, it must be the other one
