Body shell salvage

Evening all. Upon further inspection, I have decided one of my minors to be too far gone to be worth restoring. The body has collapsed in the centre, causing the door frames to be wrong, as has the front chassis leg, which repairing could cause the suspension and steering geometry to be way off, as ...

Re: Filthy Lucre

I agree about the point above in regards to targetted advertising, pointless advertising hair removal cream and shampoo during robot wars etc. But a lot of the gambling companies tactics can really be seen as predatory, as with payday loan companies. I'm not ashamed to admit that when I was around 1...

Re: The Lianor. Suzuki engined Traveller.

It looks like it fits very nicely.

Like you, it's important to me to fit something that doesn't need the bulkhead cutting, which really narrows the options.

Looking forward to hearing a lot more!

Re: 12g1316

Partly for future reference, but I think the smog hole thread is 7/16 20UNF. I've measure the head, and I've got some sinking to do! The head depth is 2.66 inch, which means it's had 90Thou skimmed I think. I measured an exhaust valve, as I'm not cleaning the head til I've actually done the restorat...

Re: 12g1316

Yeah I've read loads about them as I intended to do the same with a 998 metro I owned years ago before someone went up the back of it.

Might make up a new exhaust as I imagine the standard is a little restrictive, but the larger bore aftermarket system is too big.

Ideal thanks Phil.

Assuming any porting etc will be overkill on a 1098 block?

In that case if I just wind a bolt in and 'trim' it at either end that should be fine?

Re: 12g1316

Beauty thank you Phil.

Would this not have the same effect as having a leaner mixture?

I'd be happy to drill and tap it if I can't get the correct thread.

Would brass or steel be sufficient with a bit of loctite or equivalent?

12g1316

Evening all

I've just got my hands on a complete 12g1316 for a relatively ok price (I didn't pay £400 for it).

Now am I right in thinking it's basically a US spec 12g940?

It has 'smog holes' (whatever these are) in the head.

How would I go about plugging these?

Cheers all

Re: Quality tools

Albeit my entire life has been metric, I was talked into buying snap-on tools on finance, as my employer ensured me "I'd never own better". I understand you're paying for the after care, but I always found there was a reason (read excuse) not to repair or swap out a faulty item. I was give...

It's good to see you guys from behind the scenes joining in. From my experience with other forums, people can accept down time and server issues provided they're kept up to date. I obviously don't expect anyone to be apologising or letting us know you had beans for lunch, but I'm sure I'm not the on...

Re: 1098 Manifold Swap

All is not lost I think. You can use a 12G787 manifold (on ebay at the moment) and secure the Hif38 carb with an easily made adaptor plate or just the 2 bolts. I'm sure I've seen it done. Yeah I'm pretty sure you can mount it with the diagonals. The carb I've bought has a good manifold attached to ...

That confirms what I measured, 60°. I'll have a look thank you

Re: 1098 Manifold Swap

Hi Rob, Thanks ve been out and had a look for the manifold, but I think that lockdown might be driving me mad as I can’t find it. I’ve got a sneaking suspicion I may have passed it on to someone already and forgotten... I’m really sorry - if it transpires it is in the garage I’ll let you know! No w...

Try this guy:-

Thank you, I did try him but he's not posting out at the moment.

They are 7/16 UNF, I may have found some, I'm just waiting for taper angle confirmation

Re: 1098 Manifold Swap

I think I've got a 12G3538 (exhaust section) kicking around - I'll look it out if you're after one. HIF 38s are easy to come by - there was one on here for sale a week or 2 ago for a pretty low price. If you would Liam that would be brilliant thank you. What do you want for it? I've settled on a hi...

Re: 1098 Manifold Swap

i use a 12G3538 manifold with a hif38 carb on my 1098. I had a larger bore exhaust system made to the same as a standard system. works very well. Trouble is getting hold of one! Bigrob Personally I would use the manifold you have and purchase a HS4. Change the HS4 wax stat jet to a normal (red) jet...

Re: 1098 Manifold Swap

Why split the manifold? Vizard is complementary about the manifold in his book Tuning The A Series in that it has good flow in and out. I would just bolt it on with the larger carb. No need to make yourself extra work. I intend to purchase the H4 you posted yesterday, which wouldn't fit the mini ma...

1098 Manifold Swap

Morning all. I'm going to be taking the engine out in the coming weeks to start the refurb, along side welding the body, all between refurbishing my Bongo! I've got the intention of fitting a larger carb and inlet manifold. Which leaves the exhaust manifold. I don't want to buy the maniflow manifold...
