Re: Caravaning with a Traveller

Make sure your licence covers you to tow a caravan or trailer :o All full licences allow you to tow a trailer, as per: https://www.gov.uk/towing-rules#:~:text=You%20need%20a%20full%20car,t%20more%20than%203%2C500kg. The text, in case web link disappears: A full car licence already lets you tow trai...

This stuff only applies after ~1995, as I understand it, otherwise it is grandfather rights and you are OK.

Re: Hats off to the 803!!

I'm wondering whether your speedo might be out ;) With a diff change of course it will affect this.... I have a 1098 on an 803 gearbox (don't ask, inherited) with 1098 back axle, the first two gears are used up very quickly indeed! ...and third is more like two and a half. Still, great for pottering...

Re: Smiths 52mm Gauges - LED bulbs?

There are frosted versions and lensed versions which help distribute the light far better these days.

Also, if they have a coloured 'condom' on them (e.g. green), this helps to diffuse the light as well.

Re: Who's had the Covid vaccine? Anyone going to refuse it?

Disingenuous implies intent to deceive, which isn't very nice. Such is the nature of discourse on the internet, though. It's a figure being bandied around by the doom-mongering press, so, I wasn't targeting you with the accusation of deception, but the press, apologies. They do love a good dose of ...

To count the people that are never going to be offered the jab is somewhat disingenuous.

Besides, the antibody survey says 93% have protection.... kids make sup more than 7% of pop.

Re: Who's had the Covid vaccine? Anyone going to refuse it?

Finally got my second dose, was quite a wait for those in their thirties. Still feels premature to de-mask and risk hurting others when only ~50% of the population are vaccinated. I read the higher R rate of the Delta variant means we'll need to be at over 80% coverage (that includes immunity from ...

Piece of steel with a start of a drilled hole in it to support the rivet head, clamp in vice.

Drift with a hollow point, much like a nail punch on the other side, and whack it hard:

but they're not 'Snow Poles', they're just regular road edge markers as Germany doesn't use 'Cats Eyes' like the UK does. 2 dots on left maker and vertical bar on the right. I hate to point out the obvious, but apart from being a bit on the short side, White Posts aren't generally a lot of good as ...

Re: Head gasket failure-3rd in 2½ years

If you can feel any lip around the bores, and I reckon you probably can, then the block definitely needs a skim. Fingers crossed all goes back together well, very soon :) I can, but mainly carbon deposits around the top of the bores. If the block is skimmed, is there a problem with the pistons clea...

Ah, hadn't spotted that, thanks. Yes, perfectly legal over there, most likely.

Everyone is allowed an opinion, especially on a car, and certainly not worth falling out over ;) In the following episodes there's a lot more detail, especially around the bodywork widening, nose re-shaping, and as you say, floors. The chassis ends up being made essentially from a tube transmission ...
