£150 and it passed an MOT! Unless you bribed the examiner I have to say you got an absolute bargain! 8)

If the car just dies like this it's usually related to the ignition process. I keep the used dizzie caps/rotor arms/points/condensors as spares in the car on the basis that A) they were working fine when they were changed and B) the AA man won't have any spares.

I just wonder how many people joined as a result of visiting the messageboard.
Not me. I joined the club a couple of days after buying my Minor in August 1999. Actually one of the first things I did with my Minor was to pick up my first computer capable of internet access!

I believe if a message has moved from your outbox to your sentbox then the recipient has at least opened it.
That's how I understand it - when it's delivered & opened the message goes from 'Outbox' to 'Sentbox'.

Agreed, the radiator is far bigger than necessary - about 20% of the cooling fins are missing from my radiator and yet the engine still runs cool in Winter! Minors are fine for everyday use as long as the servicing isn't skimped and a good example is very reliable. Since the A40 is mainly 40-50mph a...

Eight years ago last month I was cycling down a nearby side-street when I spotted an abandoned trafalgar blue 4-Door. It had badly dented wings and a Sept 96 tax disc. I thought it so strange that an old car would just be thrown away. I'd never given classics much thought before, but that evening it...

I do see the logic in your policy of not naming bad/indifferent dealers The logic is undeniable - to be blunt, the club does not want to be sued out of existence for libellous comments posted on its messageboard. A bankrupt club would be useless for Minor owners. If any of the posters on here are m...

Last traveller was manufactured in Spring 1971 - 1976 may refer to the date it arrived in Sri lanka. We need the seven digit number starting with 1 to date it.

Looks like its make or break time for 'Wilbur'. All this is as a result of bad workmanship in the past. The sill covers were welded shut. As I was digging large chunks of past metal were falling out. The sill was basically FULL of old metal from previous work. I have a book of receipts here from ga...

How many do you see on a regular basis?
About half a mile from me there's a black 'C' reg saloon and I see a laid up LCV when I drive through Sipson. I haven't seen any others recently.

Engine run-on seems to be a thing of the past for my 1098 using 95ron unleaded & Castrol additive. Previously it helped if I slowed the engine idle by turning the screw, especially in Summer. However I'm not sure if your cars have one!

My Stepmother's father was a farmer in West Ireland. He used his series II splitscreen to tow a heavy cattle truck around the farm with his prize bull in it! Apparently a rusted floorpan finished it off but the engine & clutch were fine!!! :o

It's quite easy to fishtail a standard Minor in the wet, especially if the rear tyres are a bit worn, or if they are under-inflated. However it should behave itself as soon as you ease off the pedal . Same goes for axle tramp - be gentle with the accelerator when it's wet.

Kurust gives a nice sheen to rusty wiper motors and other bare metal stuff in the engine bay. However it only works temporarily where moisture is present - so as a serious rust preventer for body panels I think it isn't worth using.

As for the welder you mentioned I would strongly advise against gasless as it is no where near as neat or as controlled as gased mig. I wouldn't condemn gasless so quickly - if you are trying to weld on a windy day and you don't have a garage it is a godsend. It's also a lot quicker to get going, h...

It's always difficult to make an estate look good and this is no exception, especially the side with the extra door. If the idea was to create space for moving bulky items I would have thought it would have been better not to have the roof line curving down so much at the rear.
