Re: Tyre dating
Many thanks. It seems these tyres are at least 30 years old! I think I need to change them!

Tyre dating
I am trying to work out the age of the tyres on my 1952 MM. The treads are fine but I have not been able to work out how old they are to see if I should replace them. They are crossplies made by Pneumant in the GDR but the tyre codes do not seem to be the 3 or 4 digits shown on all the guides to dat...

Re: Seatbelt rear mounting bracket for convertible
Thanks. Yes that seems to be the conventional fitting, either drilled into the side of the sill with one bolt or bolted underneath with two bolts. I am after a bracket that raises it, so the belt comes down over the shoulder from a slightly higher point, as in my original photos.

Seatbelt rear mounting bracket for convertible
I want to fit front seatbelts to my 1952 convertible and have all the details about fixing points from the manual (Section R.35). The question I have is where I can obtain a suitable bracket to raise the top mounting so it sits a little higher than just below the bottom of the window sill? I have se...

Re: Blowing exhaust gasket
Thanks Phil, that is really helpful. The exhaust is a 2 piece stainless system, joined just behind the silencer box. I will loosen it all up and detach the rear pipe and try again with a new gasket. The ESM gasket is expensive at £12.60 + post, but the Morris Register one is much thicker and more su...

Blowing exhaust gasket
I acquired my 1952 MM in November (918 side valve USHM3 engine) and when driving it home, noticed a 'blatting' sound from the engine under load. When I got home I found the exhaust gasket between the exhaust manifold and exhaust pipe flange had disintegrated. I got a new one from ESM and fitted it, ...

Re: Lighting
I have converted my 1960 car back to an original looking setup using a similar arrangement to mowogg above, putting a dual white/orange LED bulb in the front sidelights. You will need the larger Lucas 488 bulb holder and rubber boot but can fit the 489 lens and retaining ring so it looks original. A...

Re: Manifold flange thickness
The gaskets should be lightly smeared with grease. If you have the standard manifolds, they should be the same thickness as far as I recall. I had fitted a Metro inlet manifold, and have a stainless LCB exhaust manifold, hence the difference. A straight edge across them should confirm. The inner nut...

I found Maglites very heavy, unreliable and outclassed by more modern LED torches. I have had a Lenser for a few years and while not cheap, it gives a very powerful light and is strong and durable.

Re: MM oil filter
Many thanks for the advice. While I have a spin-on filter on my A series engine (and I will now check the bypass valve!), the MM one is the original side valve engine so I want to keep it original with the Purolator filter. Any preference for makes of paper filter? I have always been pleased with th...

MM oil filter
I need to get a new oil filter for my 1952 USHM3 engine. The current filter body is a Purolator. I have the choice of a paper or felt element, but is there much difference between the two, apart from price?

MM air silencer
Having just acquired a 1952 MM with a USHM3 side valve engine, I am on a steep learning curve discovering the differences between it and the A series engines, which I am very familiar with. I understand that the home models 'air silencer' is just there to make it run quieter, with no great filtratio...

Re: Lucas 489 lamp rubbers
Thanks. Yes, I saw that but it is not clear where the gasket goes. It may sit under the chrome ring holding the glass lens tight, with the main rear rubber part (572763) holding the edges of the chrome ring down.

Lucas 489 lamp rubbers
I am looking to replace the front sidelamp rubbers on my 1952 MM as they are rock hard and perished. I have found rubber seals which enclose the rear of the lamp holder and, as far as I was aware, also retain the chrome ring which goes over the glass lens and hold it in place. However, I have also f...

Miroxol
Looking at the members area, there is a link to a metal polish Miroxol. I had never heard of it before, but as the link offered a 30% discount to MMOC members and my old tube of Solvol is nearly empty, I followed the link to buy some. Unfortunately, the discount code is not recognised and after post...
