Re: B post cracking
I've got this same problem. New floorpans and sill panels (and a lot more) six years ago (and I just looked at the underbody, it's in sound shape). I've already done the drop test, and the result was that the body alignment is spot-on. :o Perhaps the cracks began before the body was made sound, and ...

Re: English or US American ??
Something to keep in mind is that the forum has a large contingent of Americans. (Hello! ) I use American orthography because it's second nature, since I am in fact American.

Re: Our other hobbies and passions
That steam-powered model locomotive is phenomenal. Great work!
I thought you all might be amused - in the novel I'm writing, I have a scene set in an alternate Oslo, Norway, which in the novel is part of the United Kingdom (don't ask), and the main character in the scene drives a Morris Mosquito.

I'm writing a real behemoth of a novel at the moment. Does that count?
Apart from that and Mog, I enjoy video gaming, drawing, reading, road trips, being in nature, and so on. Normal introverted 25-year-old stuff.

Re: Pickup restoration part three
Great success, David! Jaekl's point is quite right. You might also consider sourcing some nipple caps to keep dirt and corrosion off the nipples, like these: https://www.ebay.com/p/?iid=181688370380&&&chn=ps

Re: Pickup restoration part three
I believe all the suspension grease nipples are 1/4" UNF - but you might remove the one from the other lower trunnion and check it, just to be sure. They ought to be the same.

Re: An American Moggie ~ My '59 Morris Minor 1000 2-door saloon
I have done more, Irmscher, but photos are such a pain in the butt to post that I haven't bothered updating here. Phil, you have a keen eye. The frontplates are both for a 1275cc Midget engine, but the original one was bent and its stiffener doodad had come loose. I was unable to unbend it to...

Re: Speedo gearing
As far as I'm aware, there's no reason you couldn't do that, as long as the gold and black speedometers have the same number of odometer wheels and same warning light positions. However, most black speedos will have different speed digit positions compared to gold ones (earlier = slower), so your re...

Re: Not what it used to be?
I like the look of the new board, but the photo incapability is terrible. Such a small file size (what is it, 250 kB?) made sense in 2002, but not 2017. And the old board let you put as many photos as you wanted in a single post (I believe - I never ran up against a limit, anyway), whereas the new s...

Re: engine and gearbox steady
When I had disassembled the car, I discovered the steady bracket was hanging on by only a single 1/4" bolt - the others having stripped out. Upon reassembly, I tapped all three holes up to 5/16". Perhaps that ended up making the difference. But you're probably right about the mounts...

Re: An American Moggie ~ My '59 Morris Minor 1000 2-door saloon
Finally - along with the engine, I've been doing a very little work on the gearbox. I disassembled the major pieces (though no work on the interior of the gearcase - that scares me to death!). You can see the 1275's head to the left. 0403171747a-1.jpg I repainted the starter bendix cover (but reused...

Re: An American Moggie ~ My '59 Morris Minor 1000 2-door saloon
One item I purchased was a new turn signal switch; Mog's old one was pretty ratty, and the horn contact was flimsy enough that my horns failed to work sometimes. The new one works admirably. Notice the radio in the background - that came out of the Datsun. 0122171609.jpg 0122171638_HDR.jpg I also go...

Re: An American Moggie ~ My '59 Morris Minor 1000 2-door saloon
I've also done quite a bit of suspension work over the last...what, eight months? Yeah, August. I finally decided to install the bottom front suspension trunnions. First, though, I removed the top trunnions and painted both sets in hard-wearing paint indicated for wheel rims. 1021162310-1.jpg It cer...

Re: An American Moggie ~ My '59 Morris Minor 1000 2-door saloon
It was a pretty good feeling of accomplishment to have come that far.
Next up was the sump.
And finally the engine got rotated into the correct orientation...which is a super big milestone! That was only yesterday.- Tue Apr 04, 2017 12:37 am

Re: An American Moggie ~ My '59 Morris Minor 1000 2-door saloon
Apparently you only get three photos per post now? The main bearing caps had already been fastened down, and now the con rod caps got torqued. 0911162257.jpg Then the frontplate was installed... 0912162351.jpg ...and eventually the timing chain and gears. (This is over the course of months.) ...

Re: An American Moggie ~ My '59 Morris Minor 1000 2-door saloon
I never did find out who rammed into Mog. Neither have I had time, money, or know-how to set it right. So Mog's still got the big dent. Here you can see it on a frosty day. 1205160701.jpg I've made lots of progress on the project engine, though. It came back to me from the machine shop, and I...

Re: engine and gearbox steady
This is a real danger. An amateur at the time (and still!), I overtightened the gearbox steady cable when reinstalling the drivetrain after my Minor's body restoration. The pull backward ended up tearing apart one of the front engine mounts (rubber pulling away from metal), and distorting the other ...
