Re: Do try this at home.
I assumed it would be a thick one, just because the thin ones were only made in 1968. Unfortunately, it was a 1968 bonnet. The seller only had the bonnet to sell, no other minor bits, so I took a chance that it might be a thick one. I have ordered some new bonnet rubbers to see if that will stop min...

Re: Do try this at home.
There was a bonnet advertised close to me, so I decided to buy it, paint it, and replace my thin one.
I won the auction, went to pick it up....... and it was another thin one.

Do try this at home.
Sorry if this has come up before. My bonnet has a bigger gap on the passenger side than on the drivers side above the grille. The other day I leaned on the front passenger side of the bonnet, and the bonnet popped up as if someone had pulled the 'D' handle. The catch is at the end of its thread, so ...

Re: calling the police
Just to round things off, I found a piece in the Daily Fail online yesterday. It reported that the case of the woman trying to sue Barnet council after injuring herself when her illegal E scooter went into a pothole was thrown out, because she could not prove that the pothole existed at the time of ...

Re: wires connected to coil
Could the unconnected wire be the 'oil filter clogged' wire from a replacement loom?

Re: Hardening half-shafts
I broke one pulling off my drive. Passenger side.
My friend broke one driving off a curb, with his Traveller loaded full of wood. The axle casing slipped on the U bolts too. Drivers side.
Are you MORE or LESS likely to snap a half shaft with a 3.9 diff and 1098 engine, than with a 4.2 diff?

Some years ago I bought a couple of used, but still useful, wire brushes. They were on shafts about 150mm long and were about 8mm wide at the end where the stiff bristles came out, so they looked like paint brushes with parallel shafts. I found them very useful mounted in a drill for cleaning rust i...

Re: It's never the coil
I would suspect a Hall Effect device to be the most likely culprit - assuming, of course, that it is an ignition fault. And the winner is...........oliver90owner! I thought I had diagnosed the problem as a loose wire on the coil. Conked out today and waited for the AA. It turned out to be......the ...

Re: It's never the coil
This morning I started the car, and then wiggled the 12v positive wire. The engine spluttered and almost died.
The connection did not seem very loose; but may have been loose enough to cause the original problem.
I squeezed the connector up a bit with pliers....and on we go.
Thanks everyone.
John.

Re: It's never the coil
Thanks berni and oliver.
One thing that berni said made me think.... my car died as it was going over a speed bump.
It died some weeks ago when I had to drive into a rough layby to allow a lorry to pass....might be significant.
Thanks. John.
