Re: club subscription renewal due, do I or don't I?
I personally think the magazine is great quality and I’d pay £32 a year just for it. Club spares is good. I find parent club activity is mostly too far south though and don’t use any of the other advertised benefits. I do think owners of classics need to stick together though so clubs and historic ...

Re: Spotted today.
Crikey Berni, your eyesight is better than mine. Well spotted.
Now you mention it, I think I did know that. Just been out to the garage to check my badges.......phew! I've got the correct '1000' badges on.

That gets on my wick too, whenever I see it. If you're going to count the boot lid as a door, you might as well include the bonnet and call it a 'six door'as to the number of doors...

What's been 'pimped' re the bonnet badges? I'm no expert, mindalthough I really draw the line at it being forced to masquerade as a 'Minor 1000' with the bonnet badges.

Don't forget surplus cheese byproducts as well. I thought I'd tuned in to Wallis & Gromit for a minute.

Re: Falling standards
Is it just the relative age of the people posting here, or our higher standard of literacy, irrespective of age? I'm sure it's a bit of both, Berni. In my final years of my working life, I could not help myself (on occasions) pointing out grammatical errors, in both internal and external communicat...

Re: Falling standards
''Gotten'' is one of those words that really irritates me too. I was moved to send an email to one of the sports reporters of my local paper, who regularly uses this word in his match reports and other articles. I did get a courteous reply with an 'explanation' that he was brought up in South Africa...

Re: E0 Petrol
If you're asking about garages stocking ethanol-free petrol, I think the only such fuel that is available is Esso Synergy Supreme 99. In Sheffield where I am, we are only have 2 Esso filling stations.....and one of those is not really in Sheffield!! I assume it to be even more expensive than E5 Sain...

Re: Falling standards
So, what gets my goat is the use of 'your' when the writer mean 'you're'. So, another thing - people's inability to differentiate between 'where', 'we're' and 'were' & 'they're', 'there' and 'their'. So, also while we're at it - the random use of apostrophes for simple plural words. So I must ha...

Re: Fitting tyres
I had 4 Bridgestones delivered direct to a tyre dealer I have used for years and he charged me £20 to fit and balance 4 tyres. I did ring around first and was quoted £10 or £12 per tyre. All this was pre-Covid, so late 2019.
£20 plus per tyre seems very steep to me.

Phil, I greatly respect your knowledge and expertise on all things mechanical but I would never have guessed it extended to felt safety hats. Gentlemen, gentlemen, please forget your bowlers and homburgs and check out one of these bad boys.......as my son is apt to say:- Just in case you can't read the blurb that comes with this on-trend headgear, here is what you are missing if you don't stump up your 23 bob now: ''The Motorway Cap is sp...

Re: Claiming on insurance for damage caused by garage
Sadly, I have to agree with MJ and K that you won't get past first base with your insurers :( I spent 40 years either as an insurance underwriting manager or later, as a commercial insurance broker and I can reassure you that no policy in the world will cover shoddy workmanship.....either in a garag...

Re: Rubber mats - not carpets?
Thanks chaps for the responses to my original post. 'You learn summat every day', as my old grandad used to say :D As for the car itself and the million dollar Beetle in MM's link, to me, they are a bit like that dusty bottle of decades-old claret, as soon as you use it, the value plummets. If that'...

In the great scheme of things, not the most of important issues but whilst browsing eBay I stumbled across this rather pricey traveller. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/203548663282?hash=item2f64721df2:g:7b8AAOSwIPdhCuKe Whether anyone would pay £25k for a MM 'woodie' (even one as original as this would ...

Re: E10 Fuel September 2021
I do think there's something in your viewpoint, Mike. I too have been of the opinion, for some time, that there is a clean fuel solution bubbling somewhere just under the surface, ready to miraculously surface......... just as oil is about to run out. I know that makes me sound like some cranky cons...

I presume it is the same Bugatti company that we all know and love, is it? If so, which came first the car or the vices? I know a few high end cars came from humble beginnings such a cycles and tractors but it's a quantum leap from a vice (even a very, very nice one!) to a luxury motorcar. If it was...
