Will try that - thanks!
Possibly it's the other end of the wire disconnected from the control box that used to go to the Dynamo...

Re: Leave a light on...
I'm sure this has been keeping you all up at night like it has me..!! In any case, I applied some logic and sorted it - think it was a case of mislabelling on my part. Since the coil had to get a live from somewhere - and the live that was down there seemed surplus to what the alternator needed sinc...

Re: Leave a light on...
Extra detail - with ign 'on' and alternator disconnected, all three alternator wires are pulling 12.5 volts, as is the longer of the two wires in the bottom picture with black flex. The white however continues to show nothing. Should I be swapping the white and black? And send the live black wire to...

Re: Leave a light on...
Photos attached! I have at the alternator - thick brown/yellow at the top, red in the middle, thin brown at bottom. 20200303_171401.jpg In the bottom photo, the longer (black) wire was going to the bottom slot on the alternator, and the white, short one was loose. I'm guessing the white needs to go ...

Donington Historic Festival - May 1-3 2020
Just wondering if anyone was going to this? A group of us went last year and really enjoyed it. It's a bit different from your usual Classic Car meet and the spectacle of actual racing was a definite bonus. Any classic car club can register - members get 1/2 price entry and free infield parking as p...

Re: Leave a light on...
John, I'm just off J3 of the A50, near Derby, if that helps? Will take some photos later - I thought I'd labelled everything up, but obviously missed something! The colours going in to the alternator Are brown, yellow and yellow (top to bottom) - then the single wire on the bottom that's on its own ...

Leave a light on...
So here's the thing - The engine and gearbox have been out of the car for some painting etc. They're now back in no problems and tonight was meant to be the first 'test start'. The car has an alternator conversion (fitted by previous owner) and the powerspark style upgrade to the distributor. The en...

Re: Distributor
Alas, having located the other end of those wires - in the box - Geoberni is correct, the box is full of resin and I've got no hope of reattaching without making a mess of it.
At least now I know what I need to reorder. An expensive mistake!
Thanks for help everyone.

Re: Distributor
Not right now as not at home - but this looks exactly like what's come off - in this photo the wiring (on the right) is going into the black box?

Re: Distributor
Thanks all, It's definitely Negative Earth - I checked last night! Both the battery has the moulded + and - and also has a bigger terminal on the + side. Anyway - maybe I wasn't clear, the issue isn't with the wiring to the coil (which I've got labelled up ready for reassembly) but the wiring from t...

Re: Distributor
Negative (right) goes to body. Assuming the battery hasn't been rotated 180 degrees!
Before I painted the engine bay the previous owner had helpfully painted a Red + over the left hand terminal, too.

Re: Distributor
So far as I know it's negative - but I'm assuming that only because there's an alternator.
Is there a way to check?

Hi all, Had an "Oh b******s" moment while working on the car... managed to yank on the coil wiring that comes from the distributor and pulled it out altogether. To which I said things like "Oh dear me" and "What a pity"... So far as I can see it should be simple to pop ...

Re: If I were you...
Thanks for the replies guys, - Radiator was new last year so that's in good nick - Clutch plates were new last year, but will check the bearing, bushes, spindles etc. when it's all out. Just on the clutch - what does everyone recommend? ESM are selling the Borg & Beck kit, but I'm reading as man...

If I were you...
Hi all, This weekend I'll be craning the engine and box out of the Traveller to facilitate some work on the engine and 'box - and not least have a good clean and repaint of them both (as well as the bay!) One of those sayings when offering advice is "If I were you..." - so - if you were me...

What's on your floor?
More specifically, what kind of paint or covering do you use on your garage floors? Mine is currently bare concrete, and I'm using cardboard sheets - changed on occasion - to catch any drips of oil etc. That's been fine for a while but inevitably while doing odd jobs there are a few drips here and t...

Re: Tracking, Alignment and an off centre wheel...
Thanks Phil, Have done as you suggested around other jobs and there's a small amount of toe in once it's all together. The steering wheel also still points right (it's a 2 spoke wheel which sits at 10 and 4 in a straight line rather than 9 and 3!) Am I right in thinking that as the Left TR has almos...

Re: Spotted today.
As a newby to the forums I had no idea until reading the above re. headlight surrounds that Roy was no longer with us - already, his posts and replies that I've found have been incredibly useful to me starting out in the realms of moggy ownership. So much so that I'll seek out the threads that have ...

Tracking, Alignment and an off centre wheel...
One of those "little" jobs that I thought I'd get round to was sorting the tracking on my traveller - it was obviously out, more on one side than the other, but all the manuals make it sound simple! So I've centred the wheel, marked the wheels with chalk against a measuring stick, rolled i...

Re: A Series book?
Thanks Phil,
I wrote this at work without the manual to hand so couldn't see if it didn't include anything. But from your response it should tell me all I will need to know and as you say there's the forum for any questions along the way. (Maybe that's why there's no book on it that I can find!)
