Re: Poly bushes

Yes exactly. The shackle plates are sitting on the shoulder of the shackle pins but if the bush flange is too thick it would be difficult to achieve this.

Hope our debate about which bush goes where was not a waste of time!

Re: Poly bushes

What's confusing me is the larger diameter blue bushes x4 in your picture. On the saloon all the bushes are the same diameter. Are the spring eyes a different diameter at either end? What are the larger diameter blue ones for? All I can say is when I did mine with the ESM poly bush kit I am pretty s...

Re: Poly bushes

I did find my pictures but they were no help as I could not see the bushes. I know you have a van and I am not sure how that differs to the standard set-up https://www.morrisminorspares.com/rear-suspension-axle-propshaft-c87/rear-suspension-c89/rear-spring-shackle-pin-bush-kit-polyurethane-saloon-tr...

Re: Poly bushes

I hadn't noticed differences with the rear suspension bushes but then again, I have only just recently changed to poly bushes and had no prior experience of them. At the front there are definitely differences in the bushes, especially the tie bar bushes. The Superflex tie bar bushes have a locating ...

If you are prepared to go to the effort of taking the cover off and sticking a patch on behind, the repair should last a long time.

Good job. I would have purchased the vacuum advance from Distributor Doctor as these are absolutely the same as the original.

Re: What tappet chest gasket do I need?

No they should not be cork. There are two designs of tappet chest cover, a concave and a convex. The earlier type on the 948cc does use a cork gasket but the 1098 type uses a neoprene gasket. If the breather pipe on the front tappet chest cover is blocked it will significantly increase the likelihoo...

Re: Wipers

There is a 2 speed wiper kit available from ESM. It includes a new motor, wiring loom, dash switch and a plate to adapt the motor mounting. I considered this kit because the single speed Lucas DR3a is not very capable in heavy rain. However, the 2 speed motor is not original and as the wiper motor i...

Re: Aluminium radiator

Here in the UK there are quite a lot of specialists who will rebuild a radiator for far less money than a new one. Originality is then maintained.

The Morris Minor is already rather over-cooled so a radiator with extra cooling capacity is definitely not needed!

Re: Power, speed and drag coefficient

I found this which mentions drag coefficient:

https://carspector.com/car/morris/043856/

Also Vizard’s book Tuning the A-Series Engine 3rd edition page 35 has a table of “vehicle index numbers” which states 0.343 for Morris Minor 1000.

Re: What tappet chest gasket do I need?

The fibre washer is not a direct replacement for the neoprene seal no matter what the MOSS site indicates. The bolts are a different length dependent upon the washer/seal used. The bolt can bottom out before clamping the seal if the wrong washer/seal is used. The parts have to be replaced as a set....

Re: Mirrors

On the subject of mirrors, I find the wing mirror not too bad but the current ones on the car are not as good as the originals which were on when I bought it in 1978. Instead of the quadrant type arms they are almost 'S' shaped and take the lenses further out. I have looked at auto jumbles and on l...

My car has mirrors on the wings. I find them Ok if set correctly. I couldn't have a mirror that stopped the quarter light opening. They are too useful for demisting the car.

It's actually the same I.D as standard garden hose so it means you can connect a garden hose to the heater tap if you want to flush out the block.

If you buy the hoses from ESM they are silicone, excellent quality and look original too.

Make sure that the sealing ring seat in the head is clean and free of crud. Scrape around the seat and then turn the engine over to blow away any crud. As regards the rocker cover gasket - clean the rocker cover gasket seat apply general purpose glue to the rocker cover gasket seat and fit the gask...
