Re: Identifying brakes

You wont know for sure until the drums off as you can fit the newer backing plate on and use later cylinders, but I think judging from the unions on the back it will be the early and more expensive ones. http://morrisminorspares.co.uk/shop/product_info.php?cPath=821_822&products_id=1777&osC...

SLIGHTLY larger A series engine

Hi, I am restoring a 53 series 2, split screen. I am not planning on keeping it totally standard but it would be nice to keep it looking reasonably standard at least. I am about to start work on the engine and it is currently a 948, what are my options for a larger A series (so it still LOOKS standa...

Identifying brakes

HI, Please can anyone tell me which brakes I have on my 53 series 2. I was told that if it has wheel bolts instead of wheel nuts, then it is the "early alloy" brakes But these look like steel? Can anyone please identify the from the photos? Thanks Steve B [frame] http://mmoc.org.uk/mbimage...

Re: Removing front shock absorbers

Hi,

Thanks for aall of the replies.

I will remove the lower trunion and see what happens.

I was probably going to renew them all anyway.

Fingers crossed that should do it, as advised I can leave the old pin in the old shock arm.

Cheers

Re: Removing front shock absorbers

Tapered pins like an impact perpendicular to the direction they come out. I never remove the top link pin. just buy a new one and fit it to the new shock. If your putting the shock back use the old pin., as long as there is no damage to it. It will not make any difference. Heating up the pin and ar...

Re: Removing front shock absorbers

Why do you want the dampers off? The spindle in the arm end is often VERY difficult to remove from the arm. Can it not be simply winkled inwards through the slot in the inner wing? I am stripping the whole engine bay to paint it and I am fitting reconditioned shocks. I don't mind fitting a new pin,...

Re: Removing front shock absorbers

Hello Steve, hammering shouldn't be necessary, you have undone the nut on the pin that passes through the damper arm, remove that and the outer washer and bush then pull the armm off? Alec Hi, thanks for the advice, but It is rock solid, not only that but there does not seem to be much scope to sli...

Removing front shock absorbers

Hi, I have had a look on the forum but I cannot see any related topics, so I am sorry if I have missed one. But I am having trouble removing the front shock absorbers Unbolting them was easy enough, but how do I get the arm off the top trunion? I am assuming that it may be down to brute force, but I...

And the bonnet clips indicate that there may be other mods, it would be interesting to find out the "spec"

Re: 53 split screen

Don't mean to Hi-jack....But.... Seeing your Alfie made me think of my 'Bob'! Only 506 and two doors between them! It was a friendly hijack and not a problem at all. It looks like Archie and Bob have had their numbers stripped at some stage. I have just bought a dateless reg for Archie, PIJ 7...

Re: 53 split screen

All booked in for Tuesday, estimated 6 hours. (Thanks Mach2) I would do the job myself, but not only have I now got the 53 back from the paintshop, but we are in the middle of a house extension etc. I am a great believer in "Do It Yourself", every time my wife asks me to do a job I say &qu...

53 split screen

Hi, I bought a 53 split screen 2 door (Black) a couple of months back. Paid £2,700, MOT.d and a reasonable runner. It was VERY VERY solid but "scabby". No signs of ANY welding. It was made in the year I was born (Yes I AM old!) and so I plan to keep this car (I normally don't hang on to an...

Re: how to identify real minor convertable

FBB13 is a light grey 2 door saloon (RHD Home Market) bult between 1952 & 1958.... Oh dear! So it is a conversion !!!!! Apparently it has been a convertible for at least 15 years, so I was hoping that it was an original convertible, especially as it has the strengthening angles. Never mind, I d...

Re: how to identify real minor convertable

Hi, Just bought a scruffy minor convertible, it has a fair amount of rust and some suspicious noises that sound like a cracked chassis or something (ouch) I will get under later and have another look. BUT I wanted to check that it was an original convertible, so I thought "Clever me, I will che...

Re: 1953 Split-screen MM

Hi, If it helps, I have just bought a 1953 series 2 from a dealer, VERY solid, virtually rust free but looking pretty shabby close up (just lots of scuffs and scratches etc. Long MOT, good mechanically and good value (from a dealer) at £2,700. This should at least help you have some idea, but as the...

Re: A Print of your series 2

If he had a stand a the National Rally he might get a few customers if he could produce a range of cars/travellers/vans etc Hi, yes I mentioned that to him and he said that he would need to build up his range of cars a bit more before a stand would be worth it. But they are very good aren't they? H...

Re: A Print of your series 2

Hi, I feel that I should clarify yet again that I have no connection to this guy whatsoever, it is just that I love the stuff he does. He has now adapted the print I paid him for to offer different colours for other series 2 owners. I will try to upload the samples he has sent, he has done four colu...

Re: What colour paint for the "gold" 1953 dash?

Hi Steve, Please let us know how you find the colour match! I also have some bits (steering column etc.) to do in my later Series II. Hi, I will do, but I am not sure how will be able to tell, I have two dashes, both different shades. I think I know which one is the original one (it is dirtier and ...
