Re: Ignition warning light comes on when I rev!?!
Checked the fan belt which is fine and 'flashed' the small terminal of the dynamo against the non earthed side of the battery just in case! Still the same. When I switch on the ignition the light glows bright, start the engine and the light goes out, build up the revs and the light starts to glow bu...

Ignition warning light comes on when I rev!?!
Finally got around to sorting out the ignition warning light on Betty after having a flat battery and now have the following problem. When I start the car the ignition light stays off. As soon as I drive and build the engine revs up the light starts to glow. Once it is on it stays on until I leave t...

Re: mig welder advice wanted
Funny that some people are having trouble with SIP welders. I have had my SIP 130 for nearly 20 years and had only one repair done 5 years ago when the transformer went. Other than that it has been a dream and it had not had a particularly easy life either, even used it to build a full chassis for m...

Indicators or not?
Been driving Betty to work and back over the last couple of weeks and other than a noisy generator she is running well. Today I went into the local town to post a package and ended up on the receiving end of some serious road rage as the idiot behind me had no idea what Trafficators were and nearly ...

Re: Every cloud……
Well Betty went for her MOT after being stood for 5 years on Saturday and came away with just two failures, one was a small bit of rot in a front chassis leg which I had missed and a tyre (which I kind of knew if I am honest) Good news is that she drove beautifully with no squeaks or rattles ...

Re: New brakes binding!
Betty had her MOT booked for 11:30 on Saturday so on Friday evening I had another 'go' at the brakes. Drivers side fitted perfectly but the passenger side was still binding. Swapped the drums over and it was a little better but not much. In the end I got it as free as I could and then took her for a...

Re: New brakes binding!
Thanks for the tips guys. I must admit I was hoping that it was just a case of everything sorting itself out alignment wise once it was all back together again. Will finish the other side tonight, as long as I can get all the fixings undone as this side looks a little more rusty than the other, and ...

New brakes binding!
After being sat in a stable for 6 years the front brakes on ‘Betty’ were well and truly seized solid so over the last few evenings I have been renewing the brake cylinders and shoes. Last night I reassembled one side with all new parts but even with the adjusters on the lowest setting and no fluid i...

Re: Every cloud……
Hi mike No engine steady so that is another job to add to the list!!! :-? Yes did see 950 cast on the block so that answers that! :D You say the 803 gearbox with a 948 engine is not ideal but doing some research the power output quoted for a 948 engine is only 4hp higher than the 803, will it make t...

Re: Every cloud……
I doubt it, if you rev the nuts off it at 35mph in 3rd then chug away in top then it is an 803 box. Seats are Series 11. Is the chassis no. stamped into the bulkhead alongside the the accelerator cable guide? Will try it out this weekend once I have finished the welding and brakes! The previous own...

Re: Every cloud……
I am glad you managed to find another car and from the sounds of it, something nice and interesting. does this mean you are going to change your name? to 79thfromtheverylastMM maybe? Thanks Charlie, it just goes to show that sometimes the hand of fate can direct you to a better outcome! :D Did thin...

Re: Every cloud……
Which engine has it got? It has a series MM bonnet so it is possible it is one of the 'very' last series MMs (they stopped building them in feb 1953) but fitted with a bigger A-series engine, then again it could be an early series 2 with the MM bonnet badge. Either way, it looks a very interesting ...

1953 2dr barn find
I bought this over the weekend via e-bay as a rolling restoration. Biggest things to sort out are the rot in both front sills and the brakes. Not bad after she has been sat in a stable unused for over 5 years. First thing yesterday was to find out how big the rot problem was so taking a deep breath ...

Every cloud……
After selling a car I had spent 8 years building to fund my wife though teacher training this year I needed a cheap rolling restoration project to keep me out of trouble. So the hunt was on for a cheap split screen, not an easy task I know. One came up on this very forum but it was sold from under m...

Use rivnuts, available with an 8mm thread as well. The kit I have came from RS components but lots of other places do them. Only problem with RS is that they come in bags of 50! Link here! http://uk.rs-online.com/web/search/searchBrowseAction.html?method=getProduct&R=0194304#header As you can ge...
