Re: Winter driving

It's not the driving that bothers me: it's the salt attacking the bodywork!

Winter driving

Can't believe how many Minors I've seen out on these salty roads. Who uses theirs through the winter and how do you cope with the rust?!

I don't commute by car (London!) but do go on long trips for holidays (south of France, Austria, etc.). I think I'd get an unleaded engine, although my saloon has no trouble with Valvemaster and super unleaded since 2003. The biggest job is persuading my wife that she'd be better off with another mi...

I was once accosted by an elderly gentleman whilst reading Minor Matters on a train. He gave me a lecture about how a Minor wasn't a proper classic as it was too new...! Anyway, he gave me a good anti-theft tip: when you leave the car, take the rotor arm with you. If only my dizzy cap wasn't so filt...

Assuming mine arrives, I can send it to you when I've finished with it (couple of days). Haven't seen it yet, but if you PM me your details, I'll post it on to you when finished.

That's my reasoning too - I've had a couple of medium-sized jobs on all 3 of my cars this year, and the Minor was cheapest and easy to get parts for!

I think to say that "there's lubrication or there's no lubrication" is ridiculously simplistic - some oils are thicker than others, you could lubricate with WD40 if you wanted but it wouldn't do your car any good. Only the best oil for my cars, I'm afraid. I use Magnatec 10W-40 in my Lagun...

Thanks for the reply, and good point about the £! It's not about cheap booze, I have a Renault Laguna which more than copes, I'm thinking about the genuine sustainability/usability of a Morris Minor. My saloon's great, ultra-reliable, economical easy to repair, etc. The only complaints are top speed...

Usability question

Hello! I have a lovely 2-door 1970 saloon which is in good condition and original (or original spec). Took it on holiday at the weekend and it went to Le Touquet and back with no problems at all. It got me thinking about the possibility of using a Minor as a main car. It wouldn't be practical with &...

Sorry for the slow response - I've been out of the office a few days. Thanks for this advice - I'll have a look at the weekend in the rain :-(

Thanks!

Oil light

Hi all, I have a question. Yesterday, a mechanic was doing a job on Naomi, and noticed that the oil light was disconnected. He connected it for me, but now the light is on all the time. What I'm wondering is: has the mechanic made a mistake? or do I have a problem with the oil pressure? The car seem...

Heater cable

Hi, I'm looking for some help with the heater cable on my 1970 saloon. I just got it back after 2 years being restored, drove it for the first time, and the heater cable came off in my hand.

My question is: is it an easy job to reattach it, and if so, how do I do it?

Thanks in advance,

Neil

RE: PAYG motoring

Well I think it would save me money, but I'm against it on principle. The thing is, they'll also then use the system for monitoring your speed, which'll lead to massive revenue from small speeding offenses to top it all up, so I'm 100% against it. It's just another bit of the Big Brother state we li...
