Morris Minor Series MM brakes

Hello, I need to rebuild part of the braking system on my 1950 Series MM. I would be really grateful if the following queries could be confirmed (for the standard setup/original configuration): Front brakes Size of copper washers for the front banjos (are there two different sizes as with the rears?...

Re: Rattling noise - suspected gearbox

A friend suggested degreasing and using Loctite, so I did. This seems to have cured the problem (for now at least).

Thanks all for your help and suggestions.

Re: Rattling noise - suspected gearbox

Thank you. So this sleeve should ‘pop’ in to the yoke and is simply an interference fit?

Re: Rattling noise - suspected gearbox

Thanks both. I’m home from work and have just jacked the car up - I’ve discovered that the noise appears to be coming from the sliding joint area and is affected if I touch the collar (see video - https://drive.google.com/file/d/1BIOFCIwvX-hhTaPAHmTTAinhBS0vyJOb/view?usp=drivesdk ). Any advice grate...

Rattling noise - suspected gearbox

I’m looking for some opinions on a rattling noise that appears to be coming from the gearbox area. Initially, I thought it was exhaust baffles but having changed the exhaust, no difference has been made. Whether the clutch is in or out makes no difference, and likewise whether the engine is on or of...

Re: 1098 Engine mount replacement

Yes - there was am awful batch doing the rounds in the 2010s that were incredibly hard. Even though the newly manufactured ones are softer than these, they don't appear to be anywhere near as springy the original specification.

Re: 1098 Engine mount replacement

Whilst faffing about with the alternator i noticed that the rubber engine mounts look a little tired. whilst i'm all for "if it anit broke dont fix it" i do wonder if one does let go is it an engine/gearbox out job or can the engine be levered/lifted up slightly and mounts replaced? Just ...

Re: SIDE VALVE - STICKY EXHAUST VALVE

Thanks both for your responses. They are consistent with what other people have told me, which is basically 'don't panic' and just take it easy. I have been advised that using an artist's brush to paint some Wynns Super Charge onto the upper stems of the valves has proved effective too, doing this s...

SIDE VALVE - STICKY EXHAUST VALVE

I have recently rebuilt my side valve MM engine. It's been running so sweetly since getting it fired up and I couldn't have been happier. However, yesterday, the engine all of a sudden started misfiring when pulling away from a roundabout. A quick roadside test and some spark plug changes ascertaine...

Re: Series MM side valve oil pumps

Oh yes - I see what you mean - having referred back to the diagram I can see the difference now! Interestingly, the engine this pump came from was a USHM3 with external oil filter - so it would have had the filter and the gauze inside the pump for filtration. It’s strange that it doesn’t seem to hav...

Series MM side valve oil pumps

Is an oil pump from a USHM3 engine suitable for fitting in a USHM2 engine? The oil pump I have is from the USHM3 engine (which used to be in my car) and apart from the shape of the hood I cannot discern any difference between them (based on the diagrams in the workshop manual). The oil pump I have g...

Side valve engine: extraction of distributor drive dowel

Hi, I am rebuilding my USHM2 engine and am approaching the point where I need to remove the camshaft. In order to do this, the distributor drive dowel needs to be extracted. Is anyone able to advise the specific bolt/screw I need in order to do this? The manual advises that this is 5mm but I am unsu...

Re: Side-valve rebuild - mounting on engine stand

Mick, Thank you very much for your response - it is incredibly helpful. I think that I have all of the tools needed though hadn't considered that a smaller valve spring compressor and piston ring compressor would be needed. Re the removal of the pistons and purely out of interest for when I do it - ...

Re: Side-valve rebuild - mounting on engine stand

Side-valve rebuild - mounting on engine stand

I am planning to undertake a rebuild of my side-valve engine this summer and would like to mount it on an engine stand. When I have rebuilt A-Series engines, the bolts I have used have screwed into the block where the backplate attaches, and I assume that it would be the same with the side-valve. If...

Glove compartment screws for late Minor 1000

In the process of disassembly I have unfortunately mislaid the two set screws which screw the driver's side glove compartment surround to the dashboard (see photo). Please could someone advise the screws I need to get hold of? I have checked suppliers and they do not seem to be listed. Glovebox.png ...
